| Re: Redskins Rewind: Redskins vs. Eagles So many good game to choose from in this series -- one which the Redskins lead by the way.
The game that sticks out for me was the 16-12 victory in 1992 at RFK. With both offensive tackles out for the Redskins, the talk all week was how Reggie White and the Eagles were going to terrorize the Redskins. Obviously, Gibbs hit the game films as hard as he ever did and planned the perfect counter-attack. The Skins came out, played efficiently, and sent the Eagles home with a loss.
One that sucked was in '91 -- last game of the season. The Skins O-line was set to break the NFL record for the fewest sacks allowed in a season, but Philly came out swinging and notched three of them. On one play in particular, Mark Rypien's facemask was bent upward towards his face -- at which point Gibbs decided to protect his Pro Bowl, future Super Bowl MVP quarterback and replace him with Jeff Rutledge.
The result: The Redskins saw a 19-7 lead crumble to a 24-22 loss, thwarting a possible 15-1 season. Didn't matter though. That year we were WORLD CHAMPIONS! |
