Tony McGee On Green Bay & Arizona

Hello All!

Once again, apologies on my end for last week and not being here for the questions, but getting right down to the game against Green Bay. This was another NY Giants situation to me. The Redskins were the superior team, but
they are too unsure about themselves. The Redskins need some serious leadership and you could see how much thatwas lacking in that game. Anytime you can shut down Green Bay the way they did, and still manage to lose the gameyou have some deficiencies in the lockeroom. The Redskins need someone to step up as their leader and say stop this or stop that. I see leadership clearly lacking on this team right now.

Now the other things is the coaches (offensively speaking) need to be on the same page. The defense and special teams have done a great job this year. Offensively, they have a great offense between the twenties and they just
seem to fall apart with communication. Nobody seems to know what is going on, but they all need to get on the same page. I also, for the life of me, can't understand why they don't use their fullback more. Mike Sellers is an absolute player, and at 285 with his athleticism, he should be getting the ball alot more. You saw what happened when he got the ball against Detroit, I don’t understand why they're not going back to him more.

It still remains to be seen just how good this defense is, but they are on their way to being an elite top 5 defense in
the NFL. Games against Dallas and New England will give us a better indication, but thus far they have done a phenomenal
job. I'm still slightly concerned with the pressure from the front four, especially this week with Arizona's wide outs.
If Shawn Springs doesn’t end up playing, the Redskins could be in some trouble. Rogers and Smoot both at times show
signs of being great corners, but they are too inconstant. If they can work a little more on the front four pass rush
and generating (in this case just recovering and catching) more turnovers, they'll be one of, if not the best in the NFL.

Jason Campbell continued to impress me during that football game, he's so cool under pressure. This is the type of guy that can lead a football team. Now he needs a good compliment of people around him and a good enough offensive line but this guy can't get hurt, he's too important. I am really liking this kid, he has a great future.

Now how do I address the Oline situation? I think I'd call Ray Brown and see if he'll come play, or go over to Russ
Grimm on Sunday since he's with the Cardinals and see if he can come out of retirement and play. Realistically, it
looks right now like everyone is going to be playing Sunday, but if they don't, than that’s the cards you’re dealt. These
guys are all professionals, they are all getting paychecks, the players need to step up and get it done, bottom line.

As far as highs and lows at a player when compared to the fans? You definitely have your highs and lows, and that’s why
you have coaches that can help keep an even keel in the locker room. I remember when we used to lose games, we would really
be hurting, and we would be very happy when we won. I really don’t know if that’s the same anymore, because I'll go into
a lockeroom after a loss and see guys laughing and messing around. It's just a change in the times, but it was like that
when I played for sure.

Looking ahead to Arizona, the offense needs to make plays, defense needs to play how they have been as well. The biggest
thing with this team is that they can't go in "feeling that they'll be ok", and it's "Just the Cardinals", otherwise
they'll be in deep trouble. The Cards have a good running back and wide outs that can be you. This game is a must win
for the Redskins with New England next week, Dallas and Philly on the horizon, there are allot of tough games left to play.
This will be the last game the Skins' are "supposed to win" for a little while (save maybe NYJ). They need to treat
the Cardinals like they treated Detroit..a game where they just need to get it done, bottom line. It's not rocket science
with this team, go back to the basics and pound the football. I do not like this two back system, because running backs
need to get a feel for the game to really get going. They need to commit to Clinton Portis and bring in Betts when nessacary.
The splitting of the time isn't working. Against Arizona, they just need to get it done. Period.

Thanks again guys!

Tony

Awesome. Thanks a lot Gman for all the effort you've put into the reports thus far. It's probably one of my favorite things here on The Warpath...

Keep up the awesome job.

Thanks for this! One of the things we are lucky to have on the warpath. People complain about the site, but they tend to forget the good stuff we have too.

Thats what I'm thinking as well. That was the one thing during our conversation that really stuck with me. I dont think we have a captain like many teams in the league do. I know we have that team idea, and no one is more imporantat, but we need someone to really take on that role...I think JC or Sellers would be the obviously choices offensivley....Than Fletcher/Washington or Griffin on D?

Re: Tony McGee On Green Bay & Arizona

In watching the NFL Films coverage of the game in the Film Room, they had video of McCardell being a cheerleader on the sideline, giving coaching tips to other receivers, and staying pretty close to Lloyd on the sideline in what may be an attempt to salvage his(Lloyd's) career. Bully for him, but it begs the question why a two week guy is assuming this role rather than Campbell or Moss or Portis? To put ones self forward as a leader means that you will be held to a higher standard in terms of your own performance. That doesn't seem to scare McCardell. I wonder about these others.

Chris Samuels speaking out would carry some weight also.
