And you can bet it will be a "franchise friendly" contract as well. One loaded with caveats that will have little to no cap hit if Jones screws up again and is released.
Kind of like T.O.'s contract. When he signed it was still fresh in everyones mind the turmoil he caused in Philly. So even though Owens signed a 3 year deal, it was worded in such a way that it was essentially 3-one year deals, so if he raised havoc, Dallas could release him with zero cap hit.
The same will be done for Jones, where if he messes up, the contract will be worded so Dallas can release him without a cap hit.
This guy is a big risk, granted. But there is little reward without risk in anything.
But if he gets in trouble or does not get reinstated, Dallas has lost very little, just a 4th round pick in 2008. But if that happens they will get that 4th rounder back in 2009.
But look at the upside, if Jones plays and has his act together then they have legitimate depth at corner with Henry, Newman and Jones. Not to mention a pretty good return guy.
However Dallas has done pretty good with 4th rounders as of late. Marion Barber and Chris Canty were both 4th round picks and now both have the high tender on them.
