Plus the guy isn't a play maker. He hits somewhat hard and makes tackles. That's about it. I'd prefer a guy who hits hard, makes tackles and can change a game in an instant.

Of all the things that have been said about Urlacher, I think the fact that he's not really a playmaker sticks out more than anything else.

I just don't get it with this guy, he'd be on my all overrated team.
I agree he is overrated, but he is still a stud. He's the QB of a great defense, is always around the ball, and is good in both coverage and run support.

He's definitely no slouch. The thing is that people know him as the QB of that D but in reality that is Mike Brown. He's the leader of that D, he just doesn't get the pub that Urlacher gets. Urlacher's biggest problem is he can't get off a block, before this year when they drafted/acquired two stud D-linemen and after they traded away their interior line follwing the 2001-2002 13-3 year, he stunk and people wanted to get rid of him because he couldn't make a play on his own. I have nothing against him I just tink there are alot of misconceptions about what he does on that D.

He is surrounded by badasses. But people just look at the best player on the best defense, though some would say Brown was better. I would trade anything (but Sean Taylor) to have Mike Brown, him and Taylor back there would be crazy.

this year didn't have it's usual stand out performance by a defensive player so I think they just went with the face of the #1 statisticly defense. I am very suprised to see the guy had only 24 solo tackles. I'm sorry but thats pretty pathetic for a leader of a defense whereas our leaders in Marshall and Washington had 77 and 73 respectively and while I really don't care for the guy Ray Lewis had 112 and 125 in the years he won and the other recent lb to win the award in Derrick Brooks had 92. The stats don't really back it up but like I said I think it's just cuz no one really had that stand out year, they just went safe and gave it to the leader of the statisticly speaking #1 defense.

I watched the 2004 Bears and Redskins game and Urlacher was all over the place. Portis would have ripped off a long TD run were it not for Urlacher. But, I do agree he is overrated.

BU gets a lot of protection from his front four. When he has had to man up against the run in the past and play through blocks he has had issues. People would love to compare him to Ray Lewis but Lewis was able to make plays getting double and triple teamed. The same can't be said for BU. Before this season I was staunchly in the BU is way way way over-rated class but he has had a good year and I am swayed that that he is only marginally over-rated now. I'd still take a half dozen of other guys before him.

I agree, it's not surprising the last time he had a great year was when his defensive line was top notch. He's the kind of LB that needs space to operate in, put a hat on him and you can neutralize him.

I just didn't think he was MVP material, he's a good player but MVP? C'mon.

He is much better this year compared to previous years, and he is now nearly as overrated as Vick.

He's the best player on a statistically great D. But let's be honest...who did they play?? GB, Det and MIN twice each...come on

--Let's give the man some credit, he's an excellent player on a brutal defense. Plus keep in mind Chicago had like zero offense for almost all year....Urlacher and the defense were on the field constantly. They also manhandled Carolina and held the same Tampa offense the Skins gave up 36 points to, to just 10 points.
