The problem with our offense is you NEVER know what to expect. One day they're putting up 35 on the Cowboys, the next day they're breaking history for fewest yards in a playoff game. Granted there's a difference between the two teams, it's not like Tampa happened to be the '85 Bears. It seems that if our offense starts out of sync, they never find a way to get it back in sync. I still don't trust Mark Brunell and I feel the ball needs to be spread around a bit more. I like what we started doing with Portis late in the year. I realize Moss has had a career year, and I hope we can expect this from him every year. Unfortunately, I'm not sold we'll have that every year. His past history indicates a bit otherwise. Hopefully I'm wrong here but it takes at least two years of playing at a high level to convince me said problems are gone. Dmek -- Id love to go back and count how many times we've done that during Gibbs reign and NOT gotten the W. hooskins 01-11-2006, 03:06 AM Im certainly for an offensive playcaller other than Gibbs. Dmek -- Id love to go back and count how many times we've done that during Gibbs reign and NOT gotten the W. Good post, that is exactly what I was thinking. Our offensive is good, but is very flakey. The last two games it has hit a low, because of Brunell being injuried or whatever other reason. Something is still not there, and we all could feel that the last two games. And because the offense was not working that well, Gibbs went ultra-conservative, atleast in my opinion. I mean, if you look at the Cowboys game, we really didn't stop firing till the gun, a total opposite stragety when compared to the Tampa game. By the way, no Martz, a little bit too fruity for me. offiss 01-11-2006, 03:27 AM I believe the problem we are running into right now is the Eagles showed teams how to attack on defense, and that's to take away Moss, and Cooley, and don't worry about anyone else, because Brunell will first look Moss, if he's not there he goes right to Cooley, then throws it away. Brunell needs to get our other WR's involved, and involved early. I believe he has to make the defense account for either Jacobs, or Thrash, that should thin out the coverage some on either Moss, or Cooley. Hog1 01-11-2006, 07:56 AM I think Sunra has the plan. On offense, pick up a couple of more weapons of the reciever, etc nature, and call it good! While I would like to "thrash" the hell out of all opponents like 91', you call the game according to what you have. It's about winning, WE ARE. Who can argue with the results? If Gibbs wants a coordinator, so be it! skinsguy 01-11-2006, 08:25 AM I believe the problem we are running into right now is the Eagles showed teams how to attack on defense, and that's to take away Moss, and Cooley, and don't worry about anyone else, because Brunell will first look Moss, if he's not there he goes right to Cooley, then throws it away. Then that isn't a problem with the offensive philosophy as what some here claim everytime we don't score more than 21 points. That to me just says that we need another deep threat receiver to compliment Moss. One more deep threat receiver can make all the difference in the world. If we go with another offensive coordinator (which tells me people are still not sold on Joe Gibbs which is ignorant in my opinion) then you still just have Moss, Cooley, and Portis. Like it or not, this is Redskins football and this is what has made Joe Gibbs' teams champions in the past and what has them in the second round of the playoffs now. We've seen proof that the system works. I believe this is just a knee jerk reaction. Just like several weeks ago when people wanted Gregg Williams to leave Washington after the defense looked as if it was folding under. Now, it's the samething with Joe Gibbs or Don Breaux. Have faith in this team. Even if we don't get passed the Seahawks this weekend, you can't deny Gibbs and company have done all the right things to get us to this point. If anything I liked about Ramsey he would look for the OPEN MAN. I realize plays are designed for Moss or Cooley, but if he doesn't find either of them open, he throws it away. Saying we need a new coordinator at this point in the season really seems like a knee jerk reaction, especially considering the level of success this offense has reached this year. Is the offense all the way there yet? No, definitely not. But we're certainly on our way, and bringing in a new coordinator at this point seems pretty unnecessary. EternalEnigma21 01-11-2006, 08:49 AM Brunell throwing the ball away, probably sealed up that win in TB. All he had to do was limit turnovers. He did. We won. We DEFINATELY need some complimentary recievers, if we ever want to win a championship game. We could probably get there without them, but to win we need them. Just look at what NE did to the Colt's offense last year. Everyone who played on their offense went to the pro-bowl. 3 recievers with 1000+ yards and 10 TD's apiece... and they go to NE and get held to 3 pts? You gotta be ready to face better D's than Tampa and walk away with some time of possession (at least) and no TO's. FRPLG 01-11-2006, 09:06 AM What the heck would an OC do? You think Gibbs is gonna bring is someone who is going to make wholesale changes to the offense? Gibbs has philosophy about offense. That philosophy worked pretty darn well back in the day and he has updated it to fit today's game with good results this year. I just don't see what an OC would do that would be a benefit. A new system is not what is needed. Some health and another WR who can get open is what is needed. And I wouldn't say the problem is that Brunell only looks 2 places. The problem is that we have no one who can consistently get open other than Moss and Cooley. I went to every home game this year and sat in the nose bleeds. I got a good look from above on how our WRs do. In the first part of the year when everything wasn't clicking very well the WRs were the only thing getting the job done. Moss was consistently open and Patten required almost as much coverage. Patten didn't catch a lot of balls but he absolutely changed what our WRs as a group could do and how teams played in the secondary. When he went down it killed Moss and no one else could get open like Patten. He was a big loss. I think the biggest goat on our offense has to be Taylor Jacobs. Everyone talked about how this guy could be a good WR but he did not nothing to help the passing game even in an indirect way like Patten was able to. We need an upgrade at the 3rd WR next year just in case we see another injury. Maybe a healthy Thrash can get the job done but I think he probably still somewhat hobbled. |
