We don't need any big name pickups. I think we can pick up a few relatively unheard of guys and use our draft picks to fulfill our needs.

I wouldn't really consider him a bust since he was brought in on a one-year deal and we didn't pay him much.
That Guy 01-16-2006, 06:57 AM keeping PP and Omar is a good idea, they're cheap depth.
Abraham is a bad idea, expensive and character issues (taking himself out of game when healthy, saying "let the bidding begin" etc, no thanks.)
I also don't like lloyd which a lot of people seem hot on. he makes some circus catches, yes, but he short arms a ton of balls too (and our experiences with inconsistant WRs isn't that great).
I'd re-sign clark first unless a surprise SS comes up... he's the only FA that'll get any interest.
ditch jacobs, holdman, koz (he doesn't play), and aki... consider ditching albright (to save a roster space, his vet min is pretty high now).
a brown and r royal are possible cuts too, but they're very very cheap warm bodies.

I'd argue that are needs are:
#2, #4 WR
#1 DE
#3 corner
Starting LB (if lavar is gone)
#3 DT/quality backup OG/T
#2 TE (cooley is a slot TE, regardless of designation)
backup LB
kicker
punter
the good news is we can get anything we need in the draft (IF S moss or D tapp are hits, and if not, there are TONS of #2 WR and DE free agents this year).
bedlamVR 01-16-2006, 09:11 AM There is no knowing where Patten could come bak into the mix or indeed I see no reason to give up on Jacobs just yet, he was a second round slider but we may be able to use him and it wouldnt hurt the cap .
I think John Hall is done he is loosing his leg and confidence we need a new kicker and maybe Novack will be available again . Frost started getting better the end of the year but has bad patches and a hell of a temper could be in for a kicking comptetition.
LaVar stays all water under the bridge and he would cripple our cap situation. I also believe the bonus he is due next is pro-ratable over the length of hs existing contract . That will bring his cap number down significantly but there is a provisio in this that he doesn't go off runninghis mouth about the team .
Talk of getting the likes of Wayne, Molds, Randell El and Givens may be a little far fetched given our cap situation same with Abraham . I beleive what we will be looking for is FA steals from teams with no patience or money like M Washington from the Colts. Mathis is a possibility but he could be expensive.
There is one thing though with the potential cuts and a little re-organisation I think we could be in realtivly goodshape cap wise this year .
skinsttw 01-16-2006, 09:20 AM I think we sign one big FA this offseason-- either a WR or DE. Then we sign some up-and-coming players and take our chances in the draft. We need to draft some linemen in the draft.
Schneed10 01-16-2006, 09:26 AM I'm not really sure why we're clamoring for a DE quite so much. Phillip Daniels was a one-man wrecking crew coming down the home stretch, he should not go under-appreciated.
Reynaldo Wynn is a great run stopper, an excellent influence in the locker room, and one of the emotional leaders of the defense. I'd resign Demetric Evans as the 3rd DE, and let this current crew stay together.
Considering the state our our offensive line depth, I think that needs to be priority #1A, with priority #1 a good WR to put opposite Santana Moss. Though the WR should come via free agency, IMO.

Should be interesting to see what some of these guys cost us to resign. Clark would likely fetch $1-$2 million per season. I'd like to keep D Evans, he makes for a very solid 3rd DE. Albright is a must to resign, he's a good long snapper, didn't make one mistake all year long. Chris Clemons is key for 3rd down pass-rushing, Campbell and Jimoh are great special teamers, and Omar Stoutmire played pretty well down the stretch. Killings was a solid 3rd DT too.
We should be able to create enough cap room to keep the guys we want from this list. But who would you want to see stay, and who should go?
I really hope we can re-sign most of these guys. If I had to dump a few I guess I'd start with Holdman and Kozlowski... other than that I really like the rest of these guys and they're all key role players.
