This is another example of Gibb's genius. He realizes he needs to open up the offense. He has no problem with delegating tasks. Saunders has done a wonderful job making KC one of the top offenses in the league. He can only help the Skins situation.

One of the things I find intriguing about all this is that Saunders either got passed over and didn't want all but two of the head coaching vacancies.

Oakland and Buffalo.

Its going to be interesting to see if they keep the Gibb's system (h-back and multiple formation/motion plays) or totally convert. I understand that the guys have the same background, but their offenses are completely different. Also, I know we sort of collapsed in the post season, but Gibbs/Breaux/Buges took the team from the 30th ranked offense in 2004 to 11th in 2005... I'm not sure if its time to re-vamp everything.

I wonder how radical this change is going to be.

Dont' expect it to be a radical change by any stretch. There is still the question of continuity that I believe will be maintained in the offense. If anything, any differences between Saunders and Gibbs will be morphed into one unique offense. They'll take what works well with the Gibbs offense and keep it, while installing stuff from the KC offense that will fit our personnel or what makes the KC offense potent. There really isn't THAT big of a difference between the two offenses or than KC had a better downfield passing game than what we did.

This is a killer article. It's almost impossible to believe that the Skins had better offensive numbers at any point in 1999 than the Rams. Anyone who is interested in the history of the league will enjoy this link. Great stuff TAFKAS!

my guess is the offense will only get minor changes. some differnt formations, a few new plays, utilizing certain players a little more...etc. stuff like that. but like i said, "thats my guess", i could be totaly wrong. either way, i'm excited about saunders coming to the skins.

I think we'll see yet another innovative, assistant coaching title for Breaux: Maybe he'll be the "Quality Control - Offensive Assistant in charge of Converting 3rd and Long." Or 3rd and Short. Either one.

I suggest:

Assistant Offensive Coordinator in Charge of 2nd Down Red Zone Passes (including but not limited to those that are shovel-like in nature) and Going for Late Night Munchies (including but not limited to salty snacks and sugary cola drinks)

I am I the only one that thinks that KC's offense is very similar to ours? I mean think about it, Cooley and Tony G. play similar rolls on the offense, both rely on a strong running game and play action passes. KC lined up in 2 TE sets, and single back formations, too. I think that we will see basicly Gibbs offense with new rinkles intellegently mixed in from Saunders.

I'd say it is, but KC has definately been more successful recently, which of course makes this a killer signing.

I agree they have ben more successful, but I dont understand where people are saying things like "I wonder if Gibbs is going to totally conver to Saunders offense or hom much he will hold Saunders back." To me that is pretty much a moot point, philosphy wise it is the same offense...

I agree! It's the same basic philosophy and that is one the reasons why Saunders will fit in very nicely for us!
