I think that J.T. was also convinced that he'd be in a bad position in Miami, behind Bob Griese and Earl Morrall.
Did Joe Theisman ever Play with the Miami Dolphins?CrashRiley 01-19-2006, 05:15 PM I think that J.T. was also convinced that he'd be in a bad position in Miami, behind Bob Griese and Earl Morrall. offiss 01-19-2006, 06:22 PM They have him listed from New Brunswick N.J. but I do believe that is wrong, he was actually from South River N.J.which is a couple of town's over, he played high school football with the Cowboy's great WR Drew Pearson. I remember those day's when Joe was coming on, he was defiently on the back burner, but you also knew it was just a matter of time before he was the man, Sonny was done, and Billy was running on fumes. The last thing they wanted was a young cocky kid trying to unseat them. And we all know Joey T. didn't sign with the Skins to sit. :) wheeler 01-20-2006, 12:17 AM Yeah, I think that he did returned punts his first couple of years. He was here at the end of the Sonny/Billy era and was doing anything he could to get on the field. I remember reading once that the only thing sonny and billy agreed on was that they both hated Joe. lol.theisman also kicked 1 punt for 7 yards..sonny and kilmer loved little joe:yeahright . theisman was a great quarterback though:point: led them to a couple great super-bowl years:woot: 70Chip 01-20-2006, 01:51 AM If you ever hear Sonny mention Theisman he often pronounces it "Theesman", which is the right way to say it. Joe changed it to rhyme with "Heisman". They gave it to Jim Plunkett anyway. Isn't it ironic that a decade later he would lose again to Plunkett in the Super Bowl? 12thMan 01-20-2006, 08:08 AM Isn't it ironic that a decade later he would lose again to Plunkett in the Super Bowl? Horrible game, easily my worst Redskins memory growing up. I still remember Jack Squirek (sp) intercepting that pass before half time and waltzing into the end zone! :( offiss 01-20-2006, 08:38 AM Horrible game, easily my worst Redskins memory growing up. I still remember Jack Squirek (sp) intercepting that pass before half time and waltzing into the end zone! :( That play is pretty funny if you listen to Theisman tell the story of what happened right before the INT. He went to sideline during a TO, Gibbs said to run that play to J.Washington, Joe disagreed and said we should take a knee, Gibbs said it worked earlier in the year, and Joe said exactly, that is why we shouldn't run it because it's the same exact circumstance they will be looking for it, but Gibbs said run it, so Joe returns to the huddle calls the play and as he approaches the line of scrimmage he looks over at Gibbs for a last second desperation reprieve, Gibbs starts waving at him to run it, the rest is history. 12thMan 01-20-2006, 08:41 AM That play is pretty funny if you listen to Theisman tell the story of what happened right before the INT. Interesting story. Where in the hell is Jack Squirek anyway.....I know he's not playing or anything, but he basically disappeared after that game. That would be a funny ass thread, "Where is Jack Squirek?" offiss 01-20-2006, 08:44 AM Interesting story. Last we saw him he was running into the end zone right before half time against us in the SB. SmootSmack 01-20-2006, 10:52 AM Interesting story. That would be a funny ass thread, "Where is Jack Squirek?" http://www.sptimes.com/2004/01/25/Sports/Colorful_characters.shtml JACK SQUIREK, Linebacker, Raiders Super Bowl XVIII Theismann, an ESPN broadcaster, remembers the screen pass all too well. "I didn't want to run it," he said. "Joe (Gibbs) explained that we'd played the Raiders earlier that year and that it worked against them then, and I said, "Don't you think they know that?' And he pointed at me and said, "Run it."' At the Raiders bench, defensive coordinator Charlie Sumner remembered how the play had burned them for 67 yards 15 weeks earlier at RFK Stadium. He called for a zone defense, inserted Squirek and told him to cover receiver Joe Washington man-to-man. "I was trying to get in the game and Charlie kept grabbing me and saying, "Make sure you don't let him get by you."' While a player, he started a business in suburban Cleveland, cleaning carpets in office buildings. When his partner left, Pro Team Carpet Cleaning eventually became the more diversified Squirek Services. |
