perhaps the teacher should have gone over his "joke" beforehand...so that the student would be a bit more comfortable, since it was an ethics class.
and I'm pretty sure the student didn't have a gun to any other student's head, "making" them throw paper at the professor...

It was an ethnicity class, not an ethics class.

I thought it was an "ethnicity" class. If it was ethics I'm sure the teacher would say this was some sort of lesson about what's right and what's wrong.

I agree, and maybe we don't know all the facts of what happened, but making one of your students feel ridiculed isn't the best way to get the point across.

teacher should be fired. That's beyond stupid, and he doesn't even see how that stunt might possibly be taken the wrong way even though he's supposed to teach ethics... moron.

after re-reading, i see it now. but, i do ponder the question, "how does one teach ethnicity?" does that mean I can learn to be Greek now, like I've always wanted?

i'm in the educational sector and i can tell you that this was a pathetic attempt at a joke. you've gotta remember that this "joke" was played during a test. most people dread taking tests in the first place, while others are just plain bad test takers. If this kid had a problem with tests in the first place, or he had a learning disorder, humiliating him only makes it worse. Even a normal person shouldn't have to take a test that way.
High school kids have enough on their plate when trying to learn and process information- they don't need an instructor humiliating him/her in front of classmates. Especially when the teacher is a big influence of students.

They should fire that teacher.
Then that kid should grow some balls and stand up for himself. I would have said something. At least to my classmates. Something to the effect of "let me get hit with some paper and see what happens to you"

it's probaby a class exposing people to different ethnicities... but a better class would be a high school introduction to sociology. lord knows my homogenous high school could have used something like that... kids tend to be myopic in their viewpoints (regional influences, such as peers, parents, and teachers influence young ones early on), and providing a class that presents something out of their own bubble is pretty rewarding.
