for 400-500 you could get a celeron 1.6 last (no rebates or anything) and week and this week a 3300 sempron is 500 (with rebates)

That Guy - Do those include XP Pro and MS Office? Most of those cheaper configurations usually come with XP Home (which is pretty useless if you want to do anything through a router) and no Office (just WordPerfect), which could cost up to 400 bucks additionally. And to upgrade Malcolm's laptop to those levels wouldn't be terribly expensive.

Just my .02. Unfortunately, I'm not quite yet in the market for a laptop again...good luck selling it.

Yeah, that's my selling point. I'm selling it for a friend and they're giving me all those programs with it. I know you can get faster ones online but most are reformatted drives or Windows 98/ME.

I only get 25% of the profit, but still, money is money when I just put in the bid on this house.

you can't upgrade a laptop's processor. and older ram is more expensive than newer faster stuff ;)

not saying malcolm's deal is bad (if you just need a laptop for office and not 3d games etc, its perfect), but pointing out that doubling the processor speed would be extremely cost prohibitive.

or post it to ebay or a classified ad.

As long as the vendor is reliable, it's fine. If the mobo is recent enough, you can upgrade with minimal hassles for a number of years.

Daseal told me about a place called www.cyberpowersystem.com and it has insane computers for about $500 for desktops.
