Drago 02-02-2006, 05:11 AM This is a quote from an article in todays Wahington Post
"The Redskins are in the market for another wide receiver. But numerous team sources asked about Owens during the season and again Wednesday said he has never been the subject of personnel meetings and that no one has discussed signing him. Universally, they have said he is not the kind of player Gibbs is building the Redskins with, and would not fit with the club."

Like there was any doubt. If anybody out there actually thought for a second that the Redskins would go after TO, I'll forgive you for temporarily forgetting who Joe Gibbs is and what he's all about. :)
#56fanatic 02-02-2006, 08:17 AM No way would TO be a good fit for this team. Joe has worked so hard in getting the individuals out of here. We have so much team chemistry and comradory now that it would be rediculous to risk that for 1 person. I dont care what TO agreed to or said, he is what he is, and that is a hell of a receiver with a hell of a personality problem. He has to be man, he has to be #1 and its not going to happen in washington. We have alot of guys that would be #1 guys, that accept the role of the team, FINALLY. You can run names off of guys that would be stand out personalities on other NFL teams, but they sit back and the team is first, and Joe and staff is who to thank for that. In my view TO is not worth any risk, I dont care how good he is. Like he said. "if it looks like rat, smells like a rat, well it probably is a rat" This guy is a New York City sewer rat!!

Is this the same joe gibbs that said all off season that ramsey was his starting qb? Just because St. Joe says it does not mean its true.
I know it would pain you if your prediction didn't come true, irish, but all signs seem to point to this being very unlikely.
The Skins would have to move alot of cap room very quickly, TO isn't a player anyone would confuse as being a Gibbs' type of player, why would the Eagles want to trade him within the division, and this type of thing happens every offseason... when haven't the Redskins been mentioned whenever there's a big name player available?

Wishful thinking, Irish. Wishful thinking.

I think T.O. is getting somewhat of a bad rap. While I think he's ultimately resposible for what has happened to him, the media has done it's part in blowing everything out of perspective. Many of the comments made, especially the one about Brette Farve, came unsolicited. If you follow the flow of some of those interviews, some of those questions were staged.
Now, I'm not running to T.O.s defense I just don't think he's totally to blame here. That along with Drew Rosenhaus stringing him along is a bad mix.
TheMalcolmConnection 02-02-2006, 09:46 AM When we don't sign TO I have a special "Pwned" sign that I want to make.
celts32 02-02-2006, 09:47 AM Linking TO to the redskins is just lazy reporting. Dan Snyder is always the easy target whenever a high profile player is available. When are these clowns going to realize that even if Dan did want TO...Dan does not decide what players play for the Redskins anymore. Joe Gibbs does...
Anyway...Dan Snyder has not chased big names in about 5 years now. What a lazy piece of reporting by Peter King...

I think you're right, the media has overblown things like they always do. But the point is also irrelevant. If we sign TO, the media scrutiny of him will come with it. The media is not going to stop hanging on his every word, and the media will continue to hold his feet to the fire on even the most insignificant comments. If you sign Owens, you're not just bringing in the player. You're bringing in all the same circumstances that caused the ruckus in Philly: TO and the media scrutiny.
