even more importantly, if you have starters who were 4th and 5th rounders they are tremendous value as far as the cap is concerned because their contracts are cheap. even better with free agents, although their original contracts tend to be much shorter and so they want starters money as soon as they can get it. look at the pats who have some low round picks starting. it allows them to spend bigger bucks on their free agents. they do so many things well in the front office.
the pats dont waste 4th-7th round picks on people they know won't make the roster either :( or ditch picks so quickly, which hurts the cap (since you then need FAs which cot more to fill spots).
