What Will Happen to Ramsey?

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get more for him right now than a 5th, 6th, or 7th. There are too many free agent QBs and, save Miami, the teams that need QBs are perfectly positioned to get one in the draft.

if they call the bluff and its a dead cba, we'll have to ditch a lot of roster filler just to prove ramsey's not leaving without getting value... then hope no one eats our filler until ramsey gets us a pick and we can get them resigned.

If the scenario you describe happens, there's going to be a lot of filler out there...some of it better than ours. How much filler does 1.7 mil buy anyway? We still need a number three QB.

Incidentally, this is the burning question now:

Now that Brunell has restructured, how much can we save off the cap if we cut him?

Prior to the restructure, cutting Brunnel would have resulted in about 5.5 mil in dead money. With the restructure, I can't see any way it could do anything other than make it worse. Also, if there is no CBA, post June cuts go on the 2K6 cap, not 2K7.

With no CBA I think there's a good chance we keep him.

riggo, it was a joke ;)

1.7mill buys just over 7 min contract rookies or just about 4 6+ year vet min contracts.

it'd be worth it to keep him to prove we won't cut him without a pick (a high 4th this year could still get you a good player, or be traded with our 5th + 6th or our 3rd to move up in a round).

i doubt highly we keep ramsey into the season if it can be avoided though. 1.7mill is a lot of cap savings considering the current situation.

Really Matty? The way I see it, if the CBA isn't extended and the 2006 cap is left at $94.5 million, we'll likely be forced to dump him. If an extension to the CBA is reached, I could see us holding onto him for a little while longer to get fair value for him.

I think Ramsey's value is hurt by the lack of a CBA because teams figure that we will have to get rid of him. If the CBA extension is reached, I think his value will increase and we'll see more interest and better compensation.

With no CBA it will all depend on how much the restructures helped and how much we need his cap space.

I've had three different people say words to that effect to me seriously since Thursday.

Yeah, it's frustrating that we don't know how much those restructured deals saved us.

No worries. I think you would've had to have been around the site for the last few days to realize that it was an inside joke.
