HAHA! I'm so glad that we have fellow road ragers on here. I get so freakin' pissed when I drive I have to calm down often when I get to where I'm going. Question for all you guys who live in VA and this is nothing against NJ people, but is Virginia becoming South New Jersey? I was counting the other day on the interstate and 6 out of 10 cars were from New Jersey. And 6 out of 6 of those cars drove like total jackasses. Great, you're from "the city", but you're in Virginia now, stop driving like a jerkoff.I realy don't notice all the NJ drivers in the Virginia Beach area are you talking more about northern VA. Now we do get alot of NJ drivers on 64 going to the Outer Banks this time of year. What irks me is when a lane is ending and the driver drives as far down as they can go and tries to squeeze into traffic when they could have merged over earlier but did not want to wait in line. Whats fun to do when you are on a two lane road and that person comes right up on your tail trying to get by. I will slow down a little and they will chang lanes and get behind the other car thinking they are going to pass me. Then I will speed up a little like I'm going to pass that car and then they jump back in behind me. Some people will just go back and forth as long as I do this not even realizing that your laughing at them every time they change lanes.

Again, HILARIOUS. I do the exact same thing. My fiancee and I call it "the game". We'll slow down to give them some hope and then get on the person in front of us's butt.

But this is more in the SW VA area (up and down 81). I remember looking at the enrollment of the college I went to and the university I work at, both have New Jersey as their top enrollment underneath Virginia. People must REALLY want to get out of there.

What blows em away is drivers who are so damn oblivious to the other cars on the road. People being jerks pisses me off but people causing problems because they are not even paying attention to what is going on around them makes me want to stab my eye with a pencil.

At the risk of people being pissed off at me, I didn't say that, but I definitely thought it. ;)

People must REALLY want to get out of there. They have invaded Nags Head NC by buying and renting all these hugh cottages for vacation. They have driven all the prices up there form food, golf, property and all consumer goods. They think its a deal because of what they are use to paying in NJ but what was once a nice little home town feeling beach area has just grown like crazy. I also get alot of people from NJ moving to the Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area. They move from 2000 sq foot homes and come her and buy 4000 sq foot homes for less and pay cash for them. Most are retired couples who just want to get away from NJ's high cost of living. Now when I say retired couples I mean in their mid 50's is quite common. Their great customers as I'm in the Insurance business and after they find out how much cheaper ins. is in Va they love ya. This is propably true with the school system and explains why they go to college here. With a military area we get drivers from all around the country and it can get quite crazy at times. I'm lucky that my rout to work does not involve getting tied up in traffic everyday. I do drive about 15 to 20 each way but I can take back roads with very little trafic and a few lights but I'm sure that will end some day.

I've noticed that around here too. It pisses me off that what's supposed to be the good ol' south (I'm not saying rednecks) is turning into NEW Jersey. Like when I meet someone new in town and they seem like assholes I'm like, "Are you from NJ?" and at least 9 out of 10 times they are. For some reason, all the NYers that move down here are nothing but nice. What is it about that state?

I only see that in Nags Head area and not around here. Maybe the people moving here from NJ are a little more relaxed and thats why the move this far down. Who knows but they are bring alot of cash with them and not taking up jobs. Our area just got hit with the news yesterday that the Ford Plant is closing and it employes about 2,400 people. Then you have all the other small businesses that support their opperations which it will hurt.

I'm always amused when I hear people outside of the D.C. area bitch about road jerks. It's so pervasive here we just learn to deal with it, but every once in a while when I'm in a particularly bad mood and some dumbass pulls a move, I can go nearly apoplectic.

However, let me tell you a good story. My wife picked me up from the Vienna Metro one afternoon and we were heading west on I-66 in the HOV lane. Now MY pet peeve is single drivers who feel that they alone are privileged enough to crowd up those lanes. Around Centreville, traffic is slowing and this woman cuts us off to get into the HOV lane. We are tooling along at a crawl and we see a state trooper with a car pulled for an HOV violation. The woman in front of us immediately tries to get back into the snail lanes but no one would let her in. My wife starts honking at the trooper and pointing at the woman in front of us. He nods and flags the woman to the side of the road. As we drove past the jerkette, my wife just smiled and waved.

Kind of made my day.
