It may be some false hope, but i'm the kind of person that gives second chances. Maybe Peter King will actually see the light. Or maybe he won't, he'll just vote Monk in because he's tired of getting millions of emails from diehard redskin fans telling him monk should be in.

You guys really do give Peter King more credit than he deserves. Seriously, he isn't THE guy that's keeping Monk out. There are other voters who don't see Monk fit to be in the hall. I don't agree with it but that's life. The biggest issue I see with the whole thing is that people make it a bigger deal than it aught to be. Maybe it's just something to talk about in the offseason when news is slow?

i know this is a rumor, but i heard that Peter King does have a big influence on some HOF voters, and when he doesn't think that Monk should be in, the other voters use his opinion to help their vote as well.

Peter King has a lot more influence than you give him credit for, as I detailed here (http://www.thewarpath.net/showpost.php?p=149989&postcount=2).

The guy is alnost certainly the biggest name in the room when the voting committee meets. (See this list (http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/selectionprocess.jsp).) That gives him an enormous amount of sway with the other voters on issues they don't feel passionate about. He's managing editor for HBO's Inside the NFL, and a senior writer for Sports Illustrated - the largest sports magazine in the world. If you don't think Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch doesn't give Peter King's opinion a little more weight than that of whatever jerk-off they sent from Jacksonville, you should not be allowed to drive a car.

EDIT: It's come to my attention that Sam Kouvaris of WJXT-TV is not a jerk-off. He serves on the Board of Directors for several charities in North Florida, and annually hosts the Children's Miracle Network Broadcast in Jacksonville. Sam’s annual golf tournament is held each May and benefits Dreams Come True. He is also active at St. Josephs Parish. He also graduated from the University of Maryland, and we all know no one bad ever came from there. Other than that, I stand by my assessment.

Does Peter King feed them all? Cuts their paychecks? I mean, come on, unless Peter King has the power to throw someone out of the committee I don't see why anyone in that committee wouldn't vote the way they felt! If you really think that being a managing Editor of Inside the NFL with it's measly audience and a senior "FOOTBALL" writer at SI gives him that much power and cred I think perhaps you need to get your head checked.

Cut the conspiracy bullshit folks. Monk simply isn't getting in because not enough of the committee members think he deserves it or have their own agenda. It's as simple as that.

p.s. Len "Fat F*ck" Pasquarelli is on there and you know that bastard is a hatter.

Today's sportswriters are not going to keep Art Monk out of the Hall. I think and I hope. It just might take a few more years.

good one.

I think it shows an incredible lack of integrity to print and say what he has about Monk, but endorse so many others who didn't make that the same impact, statistacally or otherwise. I believe it was Offiss on the other thread that really put Kings' hypocrosy in perspective the best.

He basically nominated Thurman Thomas, who in my opinion, is an underachiever. Yet King showers him with praise.

The more I read these threads, the more I'm convinced that "outsiders" are really getting a whiff of how Redskins Nation really feel about this topic.

In the dictionary next to "underachiever" you will see Thomas' picture. He nor his team ever showed up on Super Sunday. On the other hand, you have a talented, "go to guy" who set records, was the classiest of acts and was the backbone of a Super Bowl franchise; who gets dissed every year. The HOF is no longer based on what you did on the field. It is all about the press you got. Art was quiet about what he did because he did it within a team structure. Looks like he will pay the price for not tooting his own horn often enough.... and that is WRONG!!!

It has been reported that King does in fact have a significant amunt of sway in the room. The way the process works is that the final 15 players are each presented and for the first few years of Monks eligibility the biggest voice of dissent was King. essentially he got up every time and railed until he got enough people to agree. Something tells me that almost any player could be kept out if one respected person made a strong and passionate enough argument to do so. Now he has brainwashed enough people that he no longer needs to rail every year. The process is screwy.
