Expectations are high in Washington as we enter Year 3 of the new Joe Gibbs era. The NFC semifinalists from a year ago return a vast majority of last year's team.
If there is one thing we have learned about team owner Dan Snyder, it's his commitment to do whatever it takes to attract free agents to Washington. Once again, the Redskins were aggressive in the open market with the additions of wide receiver Antwaan Randle El (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5948), safety Adam Archuleta (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5467), linebacker Andre Carter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5454) and restricted free-agent receiver Brandon Lloyd (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6460), who was acquired in a trade with San Francisco. They also added Christian Fauria (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3130) (tight end), Todd Collins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3116) (backup quarterback), Tyson Walter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6075) (guard), Mike Pucillo (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6066) (guard) and Kenny Wright (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4770) (cornerback) to improve depth with experienced players.
As for the draft, the Redskins selected only six players and gave up a sixth-rounder this year and a second-rounder in 2007 to acquire the rights to outside linebacker Roger McIntosh (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7784) out of Miami. McIntosh is a versatile linebacker who has the skill set to play all three linebacker positions as well as special teams. He has the quickness and aggressiveness to rush the passer and the athleticism to match up with backs and tight ends in coverage. He should end up starting as the weakside linebacker in the Redskins' 4-3 system.
The Redskins are geared up for a run at the NFC East crown and possibly deep into the playoffs. Let's check out what else they have done this offseason to position themselves to overtake last year's divisional champ, the New York Giants (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nyg), in the toughest division on paper in the NFL.

Whoops... my bad. Sorry Matty. Delete my post if required.

Can anyone convey the general jist of the article?

No problem.

The article basically says the Skins are the favorite in the East due to their experienced coaching staff and acquisitions like Randel El, Lloyd, Carter, etc.

I'd say that's pretty much impossible right now. After last year's success, respect (and with it some attention) is due.

Got to agree with Warriorz here. The skins aren't sneaking up on anyone this year. Maybe some uneducated writers and the fairweather fans who only listen the typical ESPN drivel, but no one actually cashing checks from an NFL club is unaware of what we've got going on here. Except maybe the cleaning staff. They'll be gunnin' for us, no doubt.

Man, I can't wait to see what big Al has the offense doing come August!

Don't get your hopes up for August.. I expect a basic offense for 3 of the 4 preseason games and then opening it up in Sept.

Roger McIntosh? Rocky sounds better. :)

Honestly, I thought we'd be a great team before LAST year and the Skins didn't disappoint despite being killed by injuries.

I like the hype going into this year, we've deserved it so many times before and never gotten the respect. Whether the media writes about us or not in the preseason, we're still going to kick major butt this year.
