Southpaw 06-22-2006, 04:21 PM So you say that Harrington and Carr are not as good as Ramsey but to prove that Ramsey is talented you compare his stat to their's. Ok. So if other team stick with non producing QB's we should too?
I was trying to let this thread die, mainly because I don't feel like debating with a dozen "He's not on the team anymore, so now I hate him" Redskins fans. Again, my only point was Ramsey didn't get as much support as his contemporaries. I agree that he's probably lost the ability to become a #1 quarterback at this point in his career.
And as far as non producing QB's, the Redskins have had one(two if you count Brunells "Pro Bowl worthy" season last year) quarterback who has actually produced in the last twelve seasons...

There's your first mistake - Ramsey related threads don't die.
See, I just had to come here and post again...it's like a disease.

Well, I agree he didn't have the greatest support, but i don't really think he "lost" the ability to be a #1 as much as he never had it and just didn't have enough reps to show his true skill level as fast as those other two. He throws deep balls like javelins and that's just not an easy thing to correct at this point in a career.
JWsleep 06-22-2006, 08:27 PM Who's Ramsey? ;)

Nice. That's in the running to be my August sig. You can sponsor it...
Matty, I didn't think you'd actually post this article but I'm glad you did.
STPainmaker 06-22-2006, 11:38 PM Bottom line-None of those numbers are definite starting numbers. You may say he is a product of circumstances but we don't live in a vacuum. Nice guy or not we went another way.
Career Numbers:
Joey Harrington - Average of 186 yards per start. Two more picks than TD's for his career. 68.1 career QB Rating.
David Carr - Average of 180 yards per start. Five more picks than TD's for his career. 73.7 career QB Rating.
Patrick Ramsey - Average of 235 yards per start. Five more TD's than picks for his career. 75.0 career QB Rating.
And yet, Carr and Harrington have each "earned" 30+ more starts than Ramsey...
skinsguy 06-23-2006, 12:37 AM Gee, I go away for just a little bit and I see some things never change, only the username.
When will folks admit that Gibbs was right in getting rid of Patrick Ramsey? I liked the guy, but it doesn't sound like he's having a great time convincing the coachs in NY either.

When it comes down to it, being a likeable guy and someone who works really hard doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a good QB. A lot of people are missing that.

Neither does "being tough."
I hear so many people defend Ramsey because he's "so tough." Being nice, hard working and tough are all great things to have as a QB, but it doesn't MAKE you a QB.

True enough. But it does make fans hope that the guy succeeds and I know, for my own part, those are the reasons I liked Ramsey. Add in a cannon arm and you have someone who looks like they have what it takes. Plus, prior to Gibbs it was not like the person evaluating PR had a wealth of credibility when judging QB talent at the pro level.
Once Gibbs had him and had a chance to evaluate him, he made the call and I was good with that. As someone else said, it's not like he's burning it up in NYJ right now. Bottom line is that PR had ample opportunity to "seize the day" but failed to do so.
But I still like the guy and hope he succeeds.
