Whats with all the Patten hype? Until he produces- he still is in our pocket. In fact, he has to make up for last year and then rack up big numbers just to prove he is needed and was a good addition. I just don't see it happening but you never know who can get hurt and he'll be needed. We know Jacobs/Thrash wont contribute Offensively.If it wasn't for that I'd say trade him for draft picks b/c we seem to be buying our talent and gambling away future picks.

Patten is a proven vet, Jacobs hasn't proven anything.

Many of the skin fans i personally know are all up on jacobs and hate the hell out of patten. I don't want jacobs taking up a spot on our team but he is so damn good in the off-season. I don't understand why he just isn't good on the field. I feel the second i give up he is going to be amazing. I also can see him being a monster on another team. I trust the coaching staff to make the best decisions. This team is not run by danny boy anymore. Its gibbs' team and the expert coaching staff making the calls. They did a good job evaluating gardner mccants and coles. All have been sucky where ever they go. If they drop either patten or jacobs off our team i will trust their choice. I think it would be valuable to have all 6 be on the team this year and leave one of them inactive.

I would pick patten over jacobs right now.

Matty, it's not fair to evaluate Patten in NE and Jacobs in his first couple years. Most WRs are fairly slow to develop, and I really didn't see where Jacobs got a huge chance last year. It seems like Brunell makes about 2-3 reads and then runs, falls down, or throws the ball out of bounds. THe only ball I can remember him tossing towards Jacobs was a very poorly thrown pass that Jacobs went to try to knock down but the Bucs DB made an amazing one handed pick.

As I've said before, when I was at the second Dallas game, I saw Jacobs with good seperation nearly every play I watched him. Plus, Jacobs had the best ST hit ever last year =p

I bet we keep both and if we can a WR it's Thrash.

jacobs hate is simply based on the fact that he's been terrible. patten has put up 800 yard seasons. and thrash is clearly the better special teamer.

It's a Gibbs thing, Gibbs said some nice things about his attitude, if Gibbs said Michael Jackson was going to start for us at left tackle, we would have a thread on whether or not Bugel can turn him into an all pro his first year. The funny thing is Gibbs hasen't said anything bad about Jacobs, and he signed on a #2 and a #3 WR which was supposed to be Pattens spot.


Essentially because TJ hasen't produced yet means in many eye's he never will, as if late bloomers have never existed in the NFL, it's funny but everyone was saying the same things about Brees before the Rivers holdout, funny how a guy who couldn't play and was going to be cut, managed to somehow become an all pro.

Many people look at production and nothing else, like for instance how that production came about, did the team that player played on hold him back? Dana Stubblefield was a prime example of false production, after we signed him we quickly found out that it was Bryant Young occupying all the blockers in san fran which allowed his production, no BY in DC, no production for Stubby. Those sort of mis evaluations happen all the time.

There is no way I would toss any WR in our offense the last 3 years overboard, not until they had a chance in a real quality offense which will happen this year, Thrash as far as WR skills are concerned will be the odd man out, the question will be, is Thrashs special team importance overide the importance of the 5th WR? And we all know how much Gibbs loves Thrash that will be a real tough call when the time comes. But it may not be Jacobs in the 5 hole it may be Patten, in which he would probably be moved allowing for Thrash to stick and Jacobs to fill the role of a 4th WR, which he should be more than capable of doing along with his above average ability on specials.

I would like to know what happens in pre-season if somehow Patten slightly outplays either LLoyd or Randel'el? Does he start as told by Gibbs in which case we will have some very unhappy newcomers, or is he slighted by Gibbs and dropped to #4 or 5? Because you can rest assured Patten believes he is going to beat these guys out, that is why he asked Gibbs where he stands as far as his committment at the WR position and does the best player play, something tells me Patten isn't going to be happy with the results regardless. Pattens displeasure might be his ticket out. I just don't see him at his age being happy as a 4th WR, he could have stayed in NE if he was happy with that.
