For a first or second rounder (which is doubtful), I'd say think about it. First rounder for sure, but seriously, we can't trade this guy. I think Matty pointed it out earlier, this is the time where we have the absolute best look at a title run since I can remember (99', but even then I felt like we were waiting to lose in the playoffs). Betts is going to be a huge part of this team, and Portis carried a enorums(sp) load last season and is going to need a break. I love Rock Cartwright as much as the next guy, but if he's our #1 running back, were in trouble.

This discussion has entered the realm of the ridiculous when we start mentioning Adrian Peterson as a potential replacement for Ladell Betts.

1) Betts would NEVER command a first round pick in an era where Duante Culpepper only garnered a 2nd rounder, and RBs like Edge couldn't garner anything close to a first rounder last year.

2) Why in God's name would we draft Adrian Peterson when we already have a star RB in Portis who stays healthy and is a complete back? You'd draft Peterson to be a backup? Or were you "just saying."

Apparently, John Riggins said that the coaches are amazed by Jesse Lumsden and want to see how he performs in the preseason. If he does very well, and they decide they can trust him, it does seem possible to me that Ladell Betts could be traded.

We have a serious weakness on the offensive line in terms of proven depth. Joe Gibbs is comfortable with but not confident in the depth there. We need a solid offensive lineman more than we need Betts - if Lumsden proves to be the real deal in the preseason.

You have to be open to players emerging to surprise you if you are a coach. And you can't get so attached to a backup running back that you can't conceive of trading him for a real position of need if you have someone who is emerging who could be special at his position.

It's all speculation right now, but if the Jets have a good offensive lineman to trade to us, I think that is a real possibility.

I'll agree with that to a certain extent. I would say that Betts is in the top five in terms of backup running backs in the league.

Keep your hands off Betts, New Jersey Jets.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree. Lumsden is showing that he's solid at running the ball, for sure. But has he shown he can pick up blitzes yet?

Not gonna happen. I'll go on record and you can hold my ass to the fire if you want. Absolutely not possible.

Lumsden hype = Sultan McCollough = Kevin Watson etc. etc.

that said, we've always won out dealing with the Jets. even considering Lav, Morton and Hall. i mean Randy Thomas and Santana. we could always use another solid lineman...

Too bad we couldn't have shafted them for Kevin Mawae for a season or two.
