BigSKINBauer 08-25-2006, 05:37 AM You know, I'm enjoying Superstar mode a lot more than i was last season, but i'm seriously starting to hate being a wide receiver on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before i continue, let me apoligize for this cuss filled rant that i am about to unleash upon the masses. If you don't want to read it, please feel free to not, but i need to unleash this anger before i punch my t.v. in a fit of rage.
[rant]WHY, OH WHY, does Bill Cowher suck so much ass at calling plays in Madden. You'd think that he'd learn from the other 31 coaches in the NFL, that when you are down, it is best not to call fucking run plays all the m.f.'ing time and use PASS PLAYS.
I'm a god forsaken wide receiver, with 94 speed and and the ability to burn defenders all the time, but according to motherfucking almight B.C. all i'm useful for is run blocking. For instance, on this one stupid ass touchdown drive that lasted all of 41 yards, he ran the ball 8 times, and passed once, which was one third down btw. And you know what else, even though it was a pass play, as soon as stupid ass ben got the ball he took off running and didn't even bother going through his progressions to see if anyone was open. The Steelers are now 3-7, having lost four straight, and the percentage we ran the ball in those four losses was like 65 percent. Not to mention big ben is acting like mike vick every time a pass play is called, half the time he won't even look at anyone, he'll just take off running.
In my latest loss, we were down by 10 at the start of the third quarter, and everytime we got the ball we'd run twice for like -3 yards then throw it on third down, only to get incomplete or ben would get sacked. He's averaged under 75 passing yards in the last four games too. In 10 games so far, i have 11 catches for 217 yards and 6 touchdowns. You wanna know why i got 6 touchdowns, was because everytime a pass play was called, I ran deep and beat the coverage to get the score.
And you know what the worst part is. After my latest loss i simply gave up, and decided that i would go and get a trade, even though it would make me look bad. So i go to my agent's office, lo and behold the stupid fucking trade deadline has already passed. Now i still have to go through 6 more games with this stupid fucking team before i can ask for a trade, since i can't ask to get released. [/end rant]
In the end, there's only one lesson that can be taken from my rant. If you are a wide receiver, and you get drafted by the Steelers, either immediately ask for a trade or announce your retirement. That is, unless you love run blocking.
haha, you sound like a disgruntled player.

isn't it always the wideouts?
SeasonTicketHolder 08-25-2006, 09:50 AM I got drafted by the raiders and I noticed that they always call run plays as well. And not only are they run plays, but they're draw plays which pretty much never work. Usually i have to audible 80 percent of the plays they call.

lol seriously. And i finally figured out how to do the 40 and other stuff on the ps2. After several tries the best i managed to get was a 4.48.
Anyways, playing SS mode has really helped me understand how hard it is to play wideout in the NFL. I have found a new respect for wideouts because of it.
Unfortunately, if there's one universal truth that i've taken from playing this, it's this: In Madden, if you are in the third quarter or fourth, and you're ahead from anywhere by 1-100 points, they will never pass the ball again. At halftime i managed to get ahead 21-20 on a flea flicker. Then, when the second half began and we got the ball back, we ran. And ran again. And again. I saw instances where it was like 3rd and 15, 3rd and 19, and the Jets coach would be calling runs up the middle, despite Curtis Martin having a 3 ypc average. Pennington on the other hand, only threw 18 passes the entire game, most of them in the first half.
I mean, what does it have to take for a team to throw the ball while they're ahead. For instance, late in another game, with about 3 minutes to go, i have the ball at my own 18 yard line. The Jets coach called two runs on first and second down, and we gained about 5 yards total with that. Unfortunately, i got a holding penalty against me on first down, and one of the lineman had a false start on second down. So on third down, I had the ball at the 18, and it was 3rd and 20, with 3 minutes to go. You'd think they would call a pass that could get us a first down. Instead, he calls a run up the middle, and Martin gets stuffed for a 2 yard loss. I punt, and the Bills offense manages to get downfield and kicks a 32 yard game winning field goal right before time expires.
It's like they don't even care about winning the game. Sometimes, when i'm trying to mount a comeback with less than 2 minutes to go in the game, he'll call runs. I've looked for sliders so i can adjust the run/pass ratio, but so far i haven't seen anything. And i'm afraid that's the way it is with every team. I hope if i pick the Skins in free agency, it won't be like that, but i'm not sure. One thing's for certain, if you're a running back, you'll love SS mode.
Ok, another thing that sucks about SS mode, is rushing stats. I just finished the regular season. Look at these stats, there were 26 running backs that finished with over 1000 yards, 14 of them had over 1500 yards, L.T. finished with over 2000 yards rushing alone, and there were 19 backs that finished with 300+ carries, 8 of them finished with over 400 carries, including Ahman Green who lead the league in carries with 471. Oh yeah and one more thing, Greg Jones, listed as a fullback for Jacksonville, had a 99 yard run for a td. How the F a fullback run 99 yards without someone catching him is beyond me.
Also, i've given up on being a wide receiver. I catch most of the balls that get thrown my way, but that's just it, none get thrown my way, despite me being the #1 wide receiver on the Jets. I finished with only 34 catches for 570 yards and 7 touchdowns. I'm switching to db now, god i hope it's realistic.
mooby 08-26-2006, 12:57 AM After going through the offseason, i've realized something. SS mode is still not where it should be. The fun of getting to experience playing from the eyes of one person on the field is not enough to offset all the negative ish that makes you hate it. That and there are some incredibly unrealistic things about it. One thing i really disliked, was in the offseason, i went to go see who the Jets resigned, released, or signed through free agency. Turns out they didn't sign anyone, they released everyone who's contract was up, including over half the depth, and the same goes for every team in the league. I went to go see what the Redskins did, and pretty much everyone on the team that had one year left on their deals was gone. Mark Brunell retired, Collins was cut leaving the team with a 77 rated Jason Campbell, we only had one backup player on the oline, which was someone at left guard, we didn't resign Lemar Marshall, we only had 3 corners which were Springs, Rogers, and Christian Morton. Seeing that made me realize it didn't matter if i made the HOF, it's just not fun going through all that crap that you go through in SS mode. That's why i'm going back to franchise, where i can resign my players, trade for others, and slowly grow my players the way i want.
That Guy 08-26-2006, 02:08 AM marshall has a 3 year deal... he shouldn't be a FA.
the problem is QBs on non-human teams never progress, so eventually all the teams end up with a bunch of 75-85OVR players and all the QBs have like 70 AWR max.
i was a running back for denver and they passed 45 times in a game and ran 6. 6 runs, for the broncos. Plummer was 8/45 with 4 ints and 12 sacks and they just kept passing. I had a 9.8avg too. That's just general fscked madden AI at work though. they have yet to improve it, though running and blocking AI is a bit better, all the cpu controlled QBs seem to suck donkey balls now.

I think Marshall has a year left on his deal in Madden, either that or he got cut for absolutely no reason. I mean, the AI in Madden last year wasn't that bad compared to this year. I'm probably gonna have a 360 by the time it comes out next year, although there are some things about 360 that dislike in Madden, like you can't edit player ratings or move a person to another position. Hopefully that's fixed next year.
mooby 08-26-2006, 06:43 AM Man, i'm so pumped after playing my first career game as a strong safety in SS mode. Remember earlier when i said i was making two SS mode careers, and one was a SS and the other was a wideout. Well, today i went back and started up the SS mode career. My dad was a HOF strong safety and my mom was a brain surgeon. Well, today i did the draft, and i dunno where i got drafted because I simmed it, but i got drafted by the Browns.
I went through training camp and did the preseason games, and when the regular season started i was a 94 overall, with 93 speed and acceleration, and 72 awareness. Well, i decided i didn't want to play for the Browns, so i went to my agent before the first regular season game and asked for a trade.
Well, guess where it traded me. That's right, to the Redskins, in exchange for Pierson Prioleau. I was so happy. I didn't care that it gave me negative ego for doing it. Either way, the MNF game against the Vikings rolled around, and i started off great. The thing i didn't like was how easy it is to pick off qb's. Springs got 3, Rogers got 1, Taylor got 2, and Lemar Marshall got one. Springs also forced a fumble that i recovered. It was an awesome game, and the offense was able to record touchdowns off the turnovers pretty easily. In fact, so easily that the final score of the game was 63-0. Mark Brunell threw 7 touchdown passes, which is highly unrealistic, although most of them were a result of the turnovers. Either way, I'll take it, as i get to play for the Skins now. But it's also kind of odd, because when i was a wide receiver in SS mode they almost never threw the ball, and now i'm playing defense in SS mode and they pretty much always throw the ball.
That Guy 08-26-2006, 09:32 AM yeah, the cpu QBs seem to be trash now.
btw, someone figured out how to have two players per team on madden (so one guy can be the QB and another can be the RB or whatever) and it works online so you can play 2v2, which is kinda awesome.
