I've seen him with tight coverage quite a few times, his problem is he doesn't get his head turned around to play the ball.
His "cushion" is in all likelihood a result of the scheme and not his choice.
i agree there.
i mean damn, are we moving on to carlos now? he DOES need to get his head turned, but damn his coverage by and large has been good.

No shit. Maybe we should have a thread for every starter and everyone can rip them apart for all the things that each one of them has done wrong this year and the fact that it has contributed directly to the redskins record thus far. Gimme a break fellas.

I think the problem is, most of us were expecting Champ Bailey, and we got Fred Smoot. And I do think Rogers is as good, or better than Smoot was at this point in his career. The difference is, Smoot had Champ on the other side for the first few seasons of his career. Rogers does have some things he needs to work on, like playing the ball instead of the receiver, and not giving such a large cushion. I do however, believe that he is one of the better tackling corners in the league. It'll just take time for him to develop into a top tier corner.
Rodgers is no where near the level of play that Smoot was in his career. Whether Champ was on the other side or not, Smoot led the defense with INTs for 3 seasons. Rodgers on the other hand, not only doesn't play the ball, he's dropped more potential INT's than he has caught beginning with the playoff game against the Seahawks. He jumped the play and would have taken that freakin' ball into the endzone. Time will tell, but Coach Gray has to change Rodgers' approach to play the ball first and foremost.

First you say he does not play the ball then you say he drops potential int's. If he was not playing the ball how does he have the opportunity to drop all those int's. The problem is when he plays the ball he drops them. I think his problem is he gets ahead of himself and is trying to hard which causes the dropped balls.

While Smoot was better at playing the ball, he was probably one of the worst tacklers on the defense. He was a decent corner, but he was nowhere close to Champ level.

I hate to say it, but I dont think he has the speed to play corner. He seems to be very easly turned around. He either lacks the speed of a good corner or the agility. I hope I am wrong. We all complain about the free agents the we bring in, but the Redskins have had bad luck with high draft choices dating back to the eighties.

CR is a good CB, but I doubt he will ever rise to one-of-the-greats status. He has plenty of talent, but just does not go after the ball well enough to be great.
