bedlamVR 10-24-2006, 02:07 PM I agree with Southpaw Tiki was not reliable early in his career and Portis has been good out the box ..
I would go
Portis --- More left to come
Gibbs --- The Legend not the mecanry Parcells and I think the modern game has left them both behind ... Parcells made the change the fans wanted but may have pulled the chain on the season in doing so.
Snyder --- An owner that cares, if the team wins a superbowl with him in charge people will forgive him anything ... hell he is a saint compared to JKC
Chief X_Phackter 10-24-2006, 02:12 PM Tiki is good but he is also in a good offense where the quarterback can throw passes over 15 yards so there aren't always 9 men in the box so i think it's too hard to say tiki is better... even though I think he is a much better reciever
Did you happen to see Eli, throwing the ball up for grabs all night? Brunell can't afford to do that because we don't have big receivers to go up and get it like NYG.
Anyway...Portis, Gibbs, Snyder.
Tiki's been good for what three/four years now, once he figured out how to hold onto the ball? Portis is younger and shows more upside in his relatively young career compared to Tiki at the same stage.
Gibbs because he's Gibbs. Not Parcells because he's Parcells. That's pretty much a toss-up.
Snyder because at least he means well, and gives the coaches what they need, or think they need for that matter.
Southpaw 10-24-2006, 02:13 PM Saying he's still a scat back is just ridiculous.
I was refering more to his run style than his production. He has put up monster numbers the last few seasons, but he's still best when he's in space. He doesn't get nearly as many hard yards as Portis, and Portis can make more with less, better than Tiki. As I said before, if Portis had holes like Tiki gets to run through, he'd have a lot more yards and be a lot less banged up.
dmek25 10-24-2006, 02:17 PM there isnt one back in this league that i would take over portis. gibbs has more rings so its gibbs. and jones because of the same reasoning. but i love dan snyder
Darrell_Green_28 10-24-2006, 02:35 PM i can understand parcells, but how in the hell can u pick jones?
what do you expect from a 49ers fan
firstdown 10-24-2006, 02:55 PM Yes Parcells made the swith at QB but that switch gave them the same if not a worse result.

Tiki is a little tougher than I think you're giving him credit for.
1860 yards last year, that's a hell of a season and those yards didn't all come easy.
SmootSmack 10-24-2006, 03:03 PM Beyond the rings and the personality, here's the single biggest reason I take Gibbs over Parcells. Loyalty. Parcells was the coach of the Giants for many years but came back to coach the Cowboys. You think Gibbs would have come back to coach the Eagles? I don't. He's a Redskin true and true....except for when he temporarily was with the Falcons
Monkeydad 10-24-2006, 03:56 PM Portis - more versatile (can pass!), better blocker, younger
Gibbs - more successful, better at making unheard-of guys into stars, better values when it comes to conducting himself and assembling a team
Snyder - while not the brightest bulb in the football stadium, there's no better businessman in pro sports. He knows how to work around salary caps like no one else. That's the owner's responsibility, to manage the team's finances. Choosing players should be left up to the general manager and coaches. However, realistically, owners DO have some influence in choosing coaches and players and I'd rather have Snyder, who brought Gibbs back and likely was influential if not responsible in bring in Portis and Moss in, than Jones who always seems to bring in drug users and the garbage of the league (Owens, Vanderjagt, Roy Williams, etc.)

That was as part of an ownership group though, so I don't blame him for that. He had a tiny part of the team. Jerry Glanville, the Falcons' old coach, is also VERY active in NASCAR, so I suspect those two got together about the deal at some point.
It's like like Gibbs coached against the Skins. If he could've bought part of the team he coached, I have no doubts that he would've jumped on it and probably bought an even larger slice of the pie.
