#56fanatic 01-04-2007, 08:59 AM That could turn out to be a very valuable pick. I would like to see us trade down and get late 1st and 2nd and maybe 4th or so. We can get to quality players in the 1st and 2nd. LB and DE. There seems to be some quality players coming out of college we should be able to get in those two rounds. Who knows, for some reason they actually picked pretty well last year in the 5th through 7th rounds, getting Golston and Montgomery. Maybe we can find another couple of players that later.
freddyg12 01-04-2007, 09:18 AM The more I think about it & read what’s been reported about our cap situation, I don’t see us being in position even to sign Clements. Of course there’s always the restructuring of contracts that we do every year, and maybe they’ll have them all done by March 1 when fa opens, but I’m feeling that Gibbs has learned his lesson w/the big signings.
That said, if Clements were the ONLY fa signed it could work out so long as we don’t break the bank & further alienate our vets.
If we can’t sign Clements, which is the likely scenario, I’d like to see us scan the waiver wire post June 1, we might pick up a solid nickel back to replace Wright. Maybe Fred Smoot (I know, there’s already been a couple threads on this!)?
DE seems the highest priority to me in the draft.
irish 01-04-2007, 10:13 AM I'd like to see us trade away our pick for an unproven WR and an over-the-hill defensive player.
Unfortunately with the way this organization operates I see this as the most likely scenario.
EEich 01-04-2007, 11:00 AM I'd love to see them pick up Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson (6-4½, 260).
Possibly move Carter back to LB.

No way on moving Carter back to LB. He was really coming on at the end of the year and he hates playing LB. He doesn't have the speed for one thing that is why he struggled with the 49ers. Gaines to me seems to be more of LB size. I haven't seem him play, but not sure how well he would do giving up 50+ pounds to tackles in the NFL. I am not a college foot ball buff, but I would like to think there are quality DE and LB's we can get late in the first and 2nd round if we could get that by trading our #6 pick.
TheMalcolmConnection 01-04-2007, 11:26 AM You know what I would love for a change? For the SKINS to draft this year's hidden gem. For us to draft OUR Marques Colston. I'm not even talking someone who is a late rounder, I just want someone to step in and be given ROY consideration. Even though with GW, you know it's not possible because he won't start them from day one.
D'BOYZ 01-04-2007, 11:36 AM With the 6th pick of the draft
Washington trades his pick to Minnesota for Darren Sharper or another washed up player

dude, we gave up on the washed up player strategy years ago (except maybe AA is washed up), we now prefer to overpay younger free agents

I don't understand everyone's fascination with moving a player from their natural position, that they are good at, to LB. Arch, Carter, draft picks to name a few...I hear this all the time. "Let's sign (so and so) and move him to LB".
How about this, let's go get an LB through the draft or other. Conversions are risky.
Look at how long it took to get Carter acclimated to DE. He has played so much LB and DE he probably doesn't know where one position starts and the other ends. Just let them learn one position.
diehardskin2982 01-28-2007, 12:19 PM I say draft Alan Branch, trade back into the late first and take Paul Posluszny. Have Paul play MLB splitting time with Marshall, and develop Rocky in the OLB spot with some AA in the mix at OLB, and Monster Safety in blitz packages
