As many bad decisions that he's made in the playoffs he's been just as cursed with pure bad luck. Marty is still a quality coach.

Marty is also a great GM/talent scout. His drafts in the last few years have been incredible, top to bottom, which is one of the main reasons his team is so good.

His young teamplayers made some big mistakes. Marty should not be blamed for this lose.

Re: Thank the Heavens Marty Lasted One Year - I would have perferred Marty over Spurrier any day. If Marty had stayed with the team one or two more years he would have at least drafted some good players as opposed to the shit Snyder/Cerrato/Spurrier got us.

Tossing the Red Flag to challenge that fumble was absurd. Going for it on 4th down instead of kicking the field goal with a All Pro, Glad he is gone.

So is Marty the reason why they lost that game? No. The reason was missed opportunities.

BTW. SD has as bright of a future as any team in this league. A probowl QB, Great young offensive line, a future hof r/b, a terrific fb, a young very good defensive, and a stud lb in Merriman. If this were the skins, i would be very happy. They will be in it for years to come.

@redsk1: i'm not so sure you should call Philip Rivers a pro bowl qb. True, he did get voted there, but he really sucked towards the end of the year, and Tomlinson carried that team.

As for Marty, he should stay. It's not his fault they lost that game. If they fire him they are basically putting themselves back at square one. If they keep him all they need is a little more playoff experience with that young team and they will be a contender for years to come.

Even though I put some of the blame on Marty, I think that I should note a couple of things. Marty has put together a 14-2 record with a team that appears set to contend year in and year out for a few years. Teams don't do that without a good coach. SD would be crazy to let Marty go. I for one think that the players will be far more lethal next year if they reach the playoffs, and I expect they will. Marty will simply get to play the tape for these guys and let them see for themselves how they shot themselves in the foot. Pretty cut and dry.

I think the Pats and the Eagles are the two best coached teams in the NFL. The Pats deserve to be where they are.

I think Sean Payton has done an outstanding job in NO. Nothing to do with the whole Katrina thing, I just mean he's a fantastic, gutsy football coach. The guy has balls and makes some tough, risky calls that work out pretty well.

I never blamed the loss on Marty, I just simply stated that his decesions were poor and I am glad he only lasted one year here. Marty made the decesion to challenge the fumble. He also decided to not kick the field goal. Both poor decesions. Now if this is such a stupid thread then give me reasons why either of these bonehead choices by MArty was smart. These types of choices are typical of years past with him. As far as disclpined teams they have been to a point but there were way to many personal fouls by his team to discount the notion that they were not displined which is the HEAD COACHES JOB!!! Glad he only lasted one year in DC.

Hmmm, let me see. The Redskins are 33-47 since Marty was dumped at the end of '01. Marty is 47-34 since he left. I get to see and attend more regular season games than playoff games and would have enjoyed a 47-34 record a lot more.

The Chargers played like what they are - a tight, nervous group making their first playoff appearance in a long time, against playoff veterans.

I wish we had the Chargers problems and talent here. Lay off Marty.

Marty is a great coach. Proven. Not a Superbowl winner, but part of several different playoff caliber franchises. Snyder was stupid to get rid of Schotty for Spurrier, but he wanted him and went for it. Spurrier ate the money and played golf. Now Gibbs is back at Redskins Park sleeping on a cot. Marty will be back in San Diego next season. My ultimate nightmare would see the Redskins against the Chargers next year in the Superbowl. LT would run all over us with the defense we have now. Tiki used us up. What would future HOF'er LT do to us?

Assuming we get to the SB to face the Chargers I'd have to bet our defense would be much improved.
