See, I'm all about cutting the weight prior to the deadline and not worrying about dead-cap stuff and just dealing with WHAT WE HAVE.

See, I'm all about cutting the weight prior to the deadline and not worrying about dead-cap stuff and just dealing with WHAT WE HAVE.I think you have to cut or trade as opposed to restructure. Watching them spread guarenteed money over future years makes me sick when they end up going 5-11. We've already made our first mistake of the offseason this year: restructuring Thrash.

Thrash had one year left on his deal and hes 33. Now we owe Thrash part of our 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 cap room, and all we got from it was 0.7 million in cap for this year. Just keep him under the current deal and cut someone else.

Ultmately, Thrash isn't going to lock up our cap in the future, but it's just a bad philosophy to keep perpetuating the problem like this.

I hear that. That's why we are in this predicament.

I was surprised that there wasn't more outrage when we dealt this years second to move up from 53 to 35 to get Rocky. I knew we were impatient, but wtf was that? He was probably going to fall, and there were plenty of other prospects we liked that would have been there at 53 if we werent. Sometimes we just lock into a guy who isn't even necessarily the best guy available.

It's early to say whether it was a great or foolish one, but I think a lot of us seriously questioned/attacked that move. I wondered whether we were targeting Demeco Ryans or D'Qwell Jackson and simply lost out.

I agree. I know he was great on teams, but sometimes you just have to let some guys go. If anything, Doughty was playing great on teams and you could let Thrash go and give people like Patten or Espy a chance.

I wondered whether we were targeting Demeco Ryans or D'Qwell Jackson and simply lost out.It just seemed desperate to me. Any way its sliced, it was pretty foolish to trade up when we probably would have gotten Rocky at 53. If Rocky ends up being a star in this league, it certainly softens the blow a little. But in principle, it seems like we gave up our second this year out of pure desperation.

Speaking of Rocky, I would love to know the mystery surrounding him. Sure, Taylor was just a beast and Rogers got in purely by injuries. What's up with Rocky? Is GW just a douche to rookies or was Rocky REALLY worse than Holdman?

The move would have been much more palatable had we finished with a good record. I hate the idea of giving up the 53rd pick (last year) and the 38th pick (this year) for Rocky. At that price he better be as good as a guy like Marcus Washington.

Is GW just a douche to rookies or was Rocky REALLY worse than Holdman?GW probably felt more comfortable playing with the vet. One thing about GW that I've noticed is that no matter how much something isn't working, he never, ever acts out of desperation. I guess he would have viewed a move from Holdman to Rocky as being a move of desperation. I'd say this is a good quality in general since usually desprate moves end up being unsuccessful. I think he put Rocky in when he thought he was ready, not when he passed Holdman in terms of preparedness.

If we aquire a MLB through free agency, Marshall and Rocky should be able to compete for the starting job on the weak side.

Hell, for ME the move would have been more palatable if he would have PLAYED.
