I'll change over when all of the porn viruses have destroyed my current computer and I'm forced to buy another one...

I also was beta teting and wasn't very impressed, couldn't use some hardware and whatnot, one thing I found cool was the Media Center package built in. But the computer I have hooked to my TV to use it with didn't have 256 memory so I couldn't use it there basically I found it to be a prettied up XP, like the XP that gets it's salsa from New York city!

It's like XP with nice UI and little more features. Most of the work that went into Vista wasn't on the surface. It's definitely not worth the $$.

Honestly, I think it's exactly what Malcolm said, a MS version of the Mac OS. I've heard that even if your PC has the recommended hardware, not just the requirements it still runs slow. On my ms box I'm running xp pro with an 80 gb hard drive and 1.25 gb ram, pentium 4, everything runs/works fine. I'd hate to go do a clean install, search for necessary drivers, just to lose functionality for the sake of a "pretty" os.

I'm glad you guys mentioned the problematic upgrades, that's the first i heard that...

If anybody is interested in buying Vista, it appears as though you can purchase the upgrade version and do a "clean install" -- even if you don't have the qualifying software (like XP). This means that you can save about $200 bucks on your purchase.

its just an expensive upgrade with no benefits, besides possibly not working with your old hardware and running slower.

originally they were going to add a real journaling filesystem and some other useful tech, but those things got scraped to get it out the door faster.

go figure, remote exploits already found ;)

this one isn't really that serious (websites that play sounds can trigger vista's speech control to do things).
