Yeah, you can ... but they're not the same. I've had blue crabs at restaurants around here, and they aren't as good. They "claim" to be Maryland, but I doubt it. They gotta be Chesapeake Bay blues!
I know what you're saying. I bet a lot of it has to do with the spices, especially a lack of Old Bay outside of the Chesapeake area.
This is also why I hate the franchise Joe's Crab Shack, especially the one by my house. How can you call a place a "crab shack" in the state of Maryland when the place doesn't serve stemmed blues?!?!?

I might try it. sounds like potatoe chips may break should i use trotilla chips?
Yes trotilla chips and I like the scoop kind. If you want I'll check the receipt tonight and check my measurements and my mom adds chopped up black olives but I'm not big on them.

Whats wrong with Chesapeake Bay Blues I'd think that allot of those MD blue crabs come out of the chesapeake bay or conjoining rivers. I will have to say that a friend of mine has a farm market and they get big jimmy blue crabs from MD and they are as good a crab as I've had. I'm not saying they are better than the ones we catch in tidewater Va. but they are just as good as the best we can catch. It is true that you can tell the difference in the crabs from different areas I think it has to do with the amount of salt in the water.

It's good stuff man. I've made it several times, and mixed things around. The best thing to me is adding the cilantro to the cream cheese/sour cream layer. You get the flavor of it, but it doesn't overpower like it would if it was by itself.

And I totally agree with your comment on Joe's Crab Shack. It's a dumbed down Red Lobster with no MD blues. If you want a good place for Crabs...May's in Frederick. 355 just down the way from the Mall.

I don't usually make a big deal about food for the SB since I'm usually so sloshed by the end of the 1st quarter that anything tastes good.

pigs in a blanket is a necessity for any superbowl party other than that wings, chips, pizza and beer, i mean thats all you really need, football isnt fancy so the food shouldnt be either.

@bohnzie: Thanks for the link. I'm definitely going to order some when I have some extra money (f... taxes).

@amd: we have joe's crab shack's here, but I've never been. I had a feeling I would be disappointed. However, stone crabs are good here in FL ... people mostly just eat the claws (they're huge).

I used to go to this place called The Red Roost with my family, way back in the day. We had to take a ferry to get there, and it was always a fun experience because I was pretty young. I haven't been to many all-you-can-eat crab places, but I'd have to say this one was prototypical. You know -- huge paper tablecloth on a roll at the end of the table, wooden picnic tables, etc. I heard that it closed, but I'm not sure because I found some info online about it. Has anyone ever been there?
