I'd hesitate on the #21 pick unless springs was going for a 2nd rounder to let the skins move back up a bit in the first (which is still an unsure thing).

if we go to #8 (or stay at 6), okoye is probably the best bet, though signing ian scott (which looks unlikely) would alter the situation and send us looking for a trade down to the 10-14 area (to take carriker) if possible. If that kind of trade down isn't doable (and we do have ian scott), adams or carriker at #6 or #8 is okay.

in the third (texans), some guys to consider (one should be there):
CB josh wilson
C dustin fry
DE victor abiamiri
DE quentin moses
K mason crosby

in roughly that order, though if a DE isn't taken at 8, victor would probably move up that list.

Okoye would be good. The kid 19!!! He hasnt finished growing yet. Which is the crazy thing. Would be nice to get him.

we still need to do something to get more picks though. If we could trade to denver we could get a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd according the NFL draft pick value chartESPN.com - NFL/DRAFT06 - NFL draft-pick value chart (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/news/story?id=2410670)

If we lose postioning in the draft and pick up picks, its still better than drafting one highly rated player and hoping that he does well.

It could look like C. Rogers, S. Springs, F. Smoot, S. Taylor, and L. Landry for DBs

L. Marshall/R. McIntosh, L. Fletcher, and M. Washington for LB's

V. Abiamiri, K. Golston, C. Griffin, J. Alford(Penn State), and A. Carter on the Dline.

We could even get some more free agent help by that time, not to forget that we would still have a whole other day to draft!

Thats if and only if we trade!! I think someone will give up the farm once they see that Brady Quinn is available. We should be in good shape.

yeah, that DL would still scare me though, and there's no real FA help outside of ian scott or a surprise june 1 cut :/. I did cover a trade down to #21 in the next post though.

I think there's a very good chance quinn doesn't make it out of the top 3 though. there are enough DL guys that we could look to trade down to 12 or so regardless (assuming someone wants to move up) and still get either okoye or carriker, which is good enough for me (#6 is worth #12 and #50).

peterson could have also been a money ticket, but it looks like the offseason might relegate him to ~12 or so, which sucks for us. there are 6 very high value players, and peterson is the only one that looks like he'll be available, but he'll drop well past our pick anyways :/.

FCuk yea. We are draft pick crack heads this year. We need em bad!!

Peterson may get drafted by Cleveland. They just traded R. Droughns, and I dont even know who their back up is. Looked a lot to me like they were making way for their man. I think they will get Peterson and 3rd overall, and the reach for Troy Smith in the top of the 2nd.

Quinn has Houston, Minnesota, and Miami all ooking to see if he falls to us. They know we need draft picks, and they are interested, to say the least. If we play this right we could make out like bandits!

There's a long time before the draft and we have some money say if a player like Simeon Rice is cut by TB (which according to L. Pascarelli is a good possibility). He just turned 33 and would fit nicely into Gibbs' win a Super Bowl now strategy. We could shore up the pass rush with a signing like that and be able to draft for value not need at 6 or trade down for more picks to stock pile depth. I think the skins may be laying low for possibilities like this late in the offseason.

Drafting a great DL is the top priority-- Adams or Okoye. If we don't get one of those guys, we'll continue to be in trouble. If we trade down it shouldn't be so far down we won't get Okoye, then we should go for DE's on our next two picks. If our DE's don't work out, we should go for a top DE next year and try to fill other needs with FA's.

Is anyone worried about Okoye's size? 282 doesn't really sound like a run stuffer to me. They need a big guy to eat up double teams so Griff and Fletcher can eat people up.

he's old and dropped off quite a bit. he might be a decent situational player for our craptacular DL, but he's just not the answer as a starting, every own DE right now.
