How the Lance Briggs deal started.

Think about it, how many rumors have we heard involving the Skins lately??

The Skins trading up to grab Russell, trading up to grab CJ, the whole Bly thing, etc.

This Briggs thing is just the flavor of this week.

Man...if this thing goes through everyone involved on the Redskins side of the deal should be dragged into the street and shot unless we get at least a second rounder out of the deal...

..... Plus then there's the possibility that Danny and Rosenhaus are conspiring, with Rosenhaus's motivation being to drive up interest in Briggs, and with Danny's motivation being to scare Denver into making the Bly deal that's on the table......


Also, at least twice in the last week and a half Rosenhaus and/or Briggs have been spouting off on Mike & Mike on ESPN Radio. This has to be a coordinated smokescreen because it makes absolutely no sense for the Skins FO to pull the trigger on this. On Draft Day the value of the pick will be in the Saints/Ricky for Champ plus the rest of the Bears draft area if Adrain Peterson, Quinn or Joe Thomas fall to #6.

If this deal goes through I would rank it as the dumbest thing this organization has ever done, and that says a lot. I just don't understand why we need Briggs with Marshall, and McIntosh, then we get screwed out of a premier D-Lineman because Okoye, Branch, Carriker, Adams, Anderson, will all be gone by the 31st pick.

I'll believe the Briggs deal when the ink has dried on the contract.

It doesn't look like the most logical move the Redskins could make, but when is the bounce of a football ever logical in Redskins' land. We could make a soap opera with this script.

Most folks on this site agree that we need have multiple needs on this team--which can be obtained via trading for current players or getting more picks (or a combination).

The best thing the Skins can do right now is create a demand for their #6 pick. By creating a buzz that they are willing to trade down, they hopefully will create a supply of offers on draft day that will yield the best outcome for themselves. Two players in particular, if they are available at #6, will entice teams to do business with the Skins--either Quinn or Petersen. The Skins should continue to create a climate of demand for this pick while hoping that one of these two guys slips to #6.

Briggs agent Drew R. is on ESPN saying it is up to the Bears to accept the deal. That the Redskins have made the offer.
Then Mort said immediately after saying the Bears have rejected it and they not happy about the way it happened. That they never gave permission for Redskins to arrange a deal.

Honestly, I'd be suprised if those guys know that we gave up two picks to draft Rocky, that Marshall is decent, how bad our Dline was, what we were offered from Denver.

If we had the #6, had a hole at OLB, and hadent just used two 2nd round picks on another OLB, and had a full draft of picks....then my tune totally changes and I think we win in a steal. But we are looking at the entire picture...most other people see Briggs/31 for 6th....which looks good in that sense.
