FRPLG 04-20-2007, 11:39 AM Wow. I haven't perused this thread until just now. I think one thing that needs to be udnesrtood is that the problem doesn't lie within the medical and insurance in dustry as much as it does in our way of life in America. I know from first hand experience dealing with a family member that it is very very very difficult to get someone help unless they want it. They have to be an imminent threat to themselevs or others to be forcefully taken. He was at one piint but where the system breaks down is that as soon as a doctor, any doctor, decides "ok this guy has straightened out enough to make decision on his own" he can leave. Our interpretation of danger is just so conservative and I wouls say most of this is properly based on the foundation of freedom. If we could quantify his isanity with a number I would bet there are millions of people in this country that are as insane or more and they didn't do this and almost never do. This was an isolated instance of a rare manifestation of insanity. It is no one's fault beyond the fault you can lay at his feet. firstdown 04-20-2007, 11:48 AM at his age, it was all about the law. he was deemed an adult, capable of making his own decisions. so the only person that could have helped him was him. I agree in theory but if I'm correct they admitted him because he was found to be a danger to himself and society. What happened to him then is what is in question. That also leads to the fact that this should have been given to the proper people who would have that on his record and making it so he could not purchase a gun. hooskins 04-20-2007, 02:03 PM One of my co-workers said in refrence to the shooter "They burry his remains under a pig farm so that he could be shit on the rest of eternity." See does that change all those people he killed? No. Monkeydad 04-20-2007, 03:13 PM I think it's horrible that they are airing this stuff, they're giving this guy exactly what he wanted. Can you imagine what the families of the victims are going through having to see this?? Makes me sick. ABC News: Killer Mails Letter, Photos, Video to NBC (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3055889&page=1) The worst part is that NBC made copies of crime evidence for their own uses BEFORE handing it over to police! They make me sick. Then, CNN announced that every parent cancelled out of NBC interviews because they showed the video and were offended...then immediately SHOWED THE VIDEO AGAIN!!!! :angry-smi They're giving this sick scumbag everything he wanted, attention. Also, they're giving any other people with the same problems, sickness or just plain evil in them a role model that they never would've known to this extent without the selfish people in the media who will do anything for ratings, no matter how many lives they ruin. MTK 04-20-2007, 03:23 PM The worst part is that NBC made copies of crime evidence for their own uses BEFORE handing it over to police! They make me sick. Then, CNN announced that every parent cancelled out of NBC interviews because they showed the video and were offended...then immediately SHOWED THE VIDEO AGAIN!!!! :angry-smi Seriously I refuse to watch any of the videos, in fact I'm trying to avoid as much of the media coverage as possible. I can't stand how the media digs their claws into a story and then just shoves it down our throats until the next big story comes along. All that matters is people had their lives stolen from them. I could really give two shits about the killer and his story, his motivations, etc. F him. TheMalcolmConnection 04-20-2007, 03:29 PM I hate how they had to have a ****ing name for it too. When I hear "Massacre at Virginia Tech" it just makes me cringe. If you're going to cover it, why not just chill with titles like that. firstdown 04-20-2007, 03:31 PM Is the media shoving this on us or is this what the American people want? Do we complain but then keep watching? Is it like waiting in trafic and complaining about rubber neckers at an accident then when we get our chance we slow down to look? Monkeydad 04-20-2007, 03:32 PM I'm not watching it, no matter how many times they try to show it. MTK 04-20-2007, 03:33 PM Is the media shoving this on us or is this what the American people want? Do we complain but then keep watching? Is it like waiting in trafic and complaining about rubber neckers at an accident then when we get our chance we slow down to look? We could probably start another thread about whether the media gives us what we want, or are they pushing what they think we want. Either way, I'm not rubber necking at this one. |
