BDBohnzie 05-02-2007, 08:48 AM My buddy is a die hard Liverpool fan, so he was calling me with updates on my drive home, and I got home in time for the Penalty Kicks. Reina is the man. I'm a Manchester United fan, so once a year, we get together at my house to watch the match live (either Fox Soccer Channel or PPV). Guinness, bacon and eggs, and football. Makes for a great morning.
So I definitely have interest in the match today. I had to watch the replay on ESPN Classic last week. I erupted when Rooney hit that shot in Extra Time to clinch it 3-2. But there was nothing better than watching them put 7 up on Roma.
So yeah I watch football...you want to fight about it? ;)

Yeah Roma game was sick. I dont know about you guys and Milan today. Might be a bit tough. I am an Arsenal fan, and Man U hater lol, so I root for Milan.
wolfeskins 05-02-2007, 10:59 AM Soccer is the #1 sport on the planet. While the USA is not a HUGE fan, we are a casual fan...outside of the US, it's the largest sport in the world bar none.
yea, i agree with that 100%. i'm well aware of the passion people have for soccer all over the world, i just don't see it around here. maybe it's just the company i keep, i have met like 2 people over the age of 5 that was a fan of soccer. here in va. beach the city built this really nice soccer stadium. it was built a while ago when playing soccer was really becoming popular among the young kids. the beach even had it's own soccer team, the sharks or something like that, well, attendance never lived up to expectations and now the team is on it's way out and the city is trying to figure out what to do with the stadium.
hockey is a sport that is struggling right now with it's popularity but i'll tell you what, around this area hockey is leaps and bounds ahead of soccer when it comes to popularity. like i said though, maybe it's just the company i keep or maybe it's just the area i live in.

It's gonna be a war at San Siro today. I wonder how many Man U fans get locked up this time around in Italy?
wolfeskins 05-02-2007, 11:10 AM There are soccer fans man, hey you might even be a fan. You just dont know it.
i'm pretty sure that i'm not a fan. i've tried watching soccer before, sometimes there's just nothing good on tv,even then i can only watch about 5 min. or so. i just find it too boring. i'm like that with other sports as well, i have a hard time watching baseball, golf and a few other sports to go along with soccer. hell, i even have a hard time watching a whole nascar race without falling asleep or something.
Monkeydad 05-02-2007, 02:15 PM I think they should take the restricter plates off for Talledega...they don't hit the brakes there anyway.
So do I, but they're too concerned about safety. The plate is here to stay. :(

Yeah I know, I was just rocking ESPN's ad slogan.

Yeah, I think it's good for most races...but what's the difference between 210 mph or 197 mph? They say it's for the safety of the fans...HUH?
JWsleep 05-02-2007, 05:07 PM Crazy Earnhardt fans. I don't like the Jeffrosexual, but geesh, people...get over it...he's gone. Ol' Dale won most of his races dirty by shoving people into walls. None of today's drivers: Gordon, Stewart even drunken Michael Waltrip are anywhere near as dirty as Earnhardt was. I can't stand Gordon, but he's won at every level of racing since he was a kid, he does have talent underneath that hair gel.
I was a BIG Bill Elliott fan back in the day...there's a classy driver (also holds the record for fastest lap ever @ 212.8 MPH and it will stand forever because of restrictor plates).
I can't change my opinions about someone just because they die...it would be dishonest.
Right--throwing beer cans was very much in the mold of Sr, even if he wouldn't condone it today, he liked Gordon, etc. He DROVE like a guy who would throw a beercan at you (or anything else that he had available), even if you were at SBF's BBQ contest. At least that's my recollection. Maybe he was a sweet guy off the track, but he makes Stewart look like a driver's ed instructor. They don't drive like that anymore. (For the record, I am AGAINST throwing things at sporting events, except seat cushions at skins playoff games! ;) )
Soccer is a good sport for ESPN, because the big American Sports are much more expensive to get, and there's always a few (or many) soccer nuts (like myself) who will watch a game. For the record, FOX is kicking ESPN's ass in this department. Smoot, what's up with that?

What's up with what? FOX vs. ESPN in terms of soccer?
