I actually had this problem with a neighbor once. I use to walk through my backyard, and through his property to get to the bus stop quicker. One day this guys wife threatened me, and I stopped doing it.

Next day her husband confronts me on my bus stop and threatens to kick my ass. I am in 5th grade and this is scariest thing ever. I was worried for my life, and my parents finally straightened shit out, but still I wish we pressed charges.

The fucker moved out by the time I hit 7th grade. I kinda wanna kick his ass right now thinking about this all. Scared the shit outta me. It is freaking grass, I just dont get it.

I'm telling you guys, it's Nietche's "total eclipse of all values".

I'm telling you guys, it's Nietche's "total eclipse of all values".

I think it's more of crazy people doing horrible things than the deterioration of our societal or personal values.

It's really a shame that people take Nietzsche's philosophy and twist it. Much like people twist Charles Darwin's Natural Selection theory to "survival of the fittest" to justify their own cause and beliefs.

For some unknown reason (well, probably for personal gain) people (i.e. Ann Coulter) seem to confuse (purposefully) Nihilism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism) with Nietzsche's philosophy. Ann Coulter is a perfect example of "total eclipse of values" in the context of "Will to Power (http://caae.phil.cmu.edu/cavalier/80254/Nietzsche/W_P_4.html)" theory (http://caae.phil.cmu.edu/cavalier/80254/Nietzsche/W_P_3.html).

Do a quick search for "values" in the following books by Nietzsche if you really want to know what his take on values are.

The Antichrist (http://www.gutenberg.org/files/19322/19322-h/19322-h.htm)
(http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext99/spzar10.txt)Thus Spake Zarathustra (http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext99/spzar10.txt)
Beyond Good and Evil (http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext03/bygdv10.txt)

p.s. Personally, I think we are all born with values. That is to say, values are not derived from religion.

How can you tell the difference?

How can you tell the difference?

The big question is are values prerequisite for being sane and vice versa. Whose values are we going by and what makes certain values more worthy and right? I most certainly don't have the same exact set of values as you, does that mean I'm insane or at the very least less sane with respect to some of your values?

Values are a matter of prospective and beliefs. Lets take human sacrifice for instance. Is a society that practices human sacrifice insane compared to that which doesn't but permits capital punishment? If yes, how so? What if the person being sacrificed wishes to be sacrificed while a person that does not wish to be put to death is put to death?

One can be very sane and have no values (i.e. drug dealers or dudes that rob old ladies). The litmus test for determining sanity can not be based on values. I mean, I would have to classify everyone I throughly disagree with as insane (i.e. Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia).

The question was not about the definition of insanity. The question was, How can you tell that that we see before us is not a broad moral crisis, but rather the isolated, disconnected acts of a few and at what point would the latter become the former and would you ever admit that a moral crisis existed or would you be saying "perspective" as they danced around your pyre?

I contend that what we see before us is the acting out of modern man's hatred for himself. He still feels guilt (he seems to have been born with THAT) but having disposed of God he has no way to assuege that guilt. Ever increasing violence ensues. The intellectuals are finished with God as well, indeed they led the way, so they blame guns, or blame their political opponents, or deny the phenomenon completely. They are as confused and lost as everybody else. We may have invented God, but we did so for a purpose. You can't pretend that suddenly removing such a central concept so suddenly and decisively is not bound to have undesirable and unpredictable consequences.

On a lighter note, I'm curious to see which right wing monster you invoke in your next post. We've had Coulter, Scalia, and Thomas. The fact that you dislike all the correct people has been duly noted.
