Word is GW is working on an innovative 1-0-10 lineup to cut down on pass yardage.

You've heard of the Cover 2, now comes the revolutionary Base 2 (or binary) defense

I think we could end up keep Springs, Smoot, Rodgers, Butler, Jimoh, Macklin. Of course, as mentioned, this would make trading Springs more viable.

If Springs doesn't get traded, I think if anyone had to go it should be Butler. Jimoh isn't injury prone, has been a Redskin for some time, and is one of our best special teamers. Macklin is durable, has started 79 games as a pro, and apparently has a phenomenal work ethic. You know our coaches love that. Butler is a quality player, but he's only played 6 games the past two seasons. He hasn't had an INT or a pass defensed since 2004. Not good.

On NFL radio Corey Chavous just raved about Butler and how great he'll be in our system. Really gave a pretty nice breakdown of the skins.

Thoughts on the 1-0-10 Defense:

A. Can't be much worse in the run dept. than the standard 4-3 we ran last year.

B. The other team will never know where the blitz is coming from.

C. Are we that worried about M.Washington's and R.McIntosh's injuries?

D. I don't think we have enough NFL quality defensive lineman for the scheme.
Haha letter (D.) had me rolling. I don't understand how some people here can just say going "5-11 is no big deal, heck we'll get'em next year." I like to compete and have a good showing on the field. What I don't like is to get beat year after year, and look like a joke. If some of you guys can get down with that, more power to you. But, if I go to a game, and pay a couple hundred dollars for some descent seats, and cheer on my team, I want to see positive results, and good effort. That is how I roll. But, back to the thread at hand, yeah we are very deep at corner now, woohoo.

The part that I put in bold is what really gets me too. The way we have spent so stupidly since The Danny took over with practically nothing to show for it is sickening. I know this is off topic with the thread, but I have a friend who HATES the Skins, and he constantly calls our team "a punchline." It makes my skin crawl, but he's right for the most part. Not overall, but for the last 15 years or so. And it makes me sick. Hopefully this depth at corner can help in some way to reverse the awful trend.

Remind me again -- who was the last defensive back we got from the Rams?

Actually, I like this signing. An injury or two in the secondary and we could see Carlos and Fred starting at corner.

Yikes.

All of us, save 5Rings, want the Redskins to win. And no one is happy when they lose. To accuse any of us otherwise is ridiculous.

Maybe Butler could put on 200 pounds or so and we could convert him to a d-lineman.LOL.

I really think we will end up keeping all of them. See, Butler will be used more in dime and prevent and is a good insurance policy in case we need him to come in for someone who is injured. Also, he has said that he really wants to help out on special teams and to me that is a great thing for him because it somewhat eliminates the need to use some starters on special teams.

Macklin will be our top "2nd stringer" with the most likely scenario being that Springs, Smoot, and Rogers will all garner the "starter" label. David Macklin is a very effective veteran who doesnt get talked about. He is like the 2nd string and nickel corners for the Pats before Asante Samuels emerged. They aren't flashy and aren't the most gifted athletes but, they are workout warriors and they go out on the field get the job done.

Our safety situation will more than likely go as follows: Sean and Laron will start with Priloeau and Stoudmire doing what they did best in 2005, which was putting pressure on the quarterback and guarding the flats which in turn will allow the linebackers to worry less about that area and be more focused to making plays near the line of scrimmage which in turn will also lead to better D-line play. (although it would not hurt top pick up one more vet to add to the rotation) It is like Matty said "You can never have enough depth." It is one big domino effect when one area plays well the others will follow suit. I know the saying goes "It all starts up front" but when you really break down our defense in 2006 even when the D-line managed to get pressure on the Quarterback he was still able to make passes for the simple fact that we could not cover anyone.

P.S. What ever happened to Demetric Evans? He was a very good rotation DE in the later part of 2005 and then he just vanished. Even Chris Clemons was good for us but i know he released him.
