Sean Taylor .. he's our man.

I am confused by that.

But, I am glad that both Golston and Montgomery have bulked up. We need them to clog up that line and take on blocks so Fletcher doesnt end up like Marshall last year. If we can get them to play well along with a healthy Griffin and Salave'a our run defense should jump up to the top 15 again.

According to Redskins.com (at link below) Golston gained a whopping 25 pounds and Montgomery picked up 10. Montgomery was already beefy to begin with.

This means both should be weighing in around 315 pounds. Which makes me feel warm and fuzzy. My number one concern with our defense is stopping the run up the middle.

Schneed - with this in mind do you think Big Joe Salavea is going to get cut?

I know this was for Schneed, but I don't see any of our defensive lineman getting cut, we need the depth. Our rotation is important. Plus big Joe can still give us some huge snaps off the bench and be a big part of our rotation.

Why would we do that? It's our policy to rotate the sub-par defensive line so that atleast they have some energy as the game progresses.

Before the draft I was thinking that JOe S. would get cut, but we didn't bring in any competition from the draft & I don't recall any DT's we got as undrafted fa's.
His roster spot may be a competition between he & Boschetti.

There's no salary cap motivation to cut him, so if he does get cut, it will be because he's simply outplayed by 4 other DTs on the roster. Griffin, Montgomery, and Golston are sure bets for the roster. I think Big Joe still has a good chance to make it, but he'll be in a dogfight with Boschetti and a few other guys.

From reading this stuff of how the coaches are beffing up players working with them this off season it sounds to me that they where happy with the talent on the teams just thought some players had things they needed to do. This kid of explains what we did in the draft but only time will tell. I was listening to the Riggins show yesterday and he was getting pumped up. He said it the first time in a while that he really thought that the skins had a good team and was talking about the playoffs.

If Golston and Montgomery have solid seasons, then it justifies picking Landry at six. Hell, Landry is tough to pass up either way though.

agreed. If Griffin gets beat out for his starting spot I (& many others I"m sure) would be surprised, but maybe not totally shocked. Griffin showed a good burst & motor last year & Montgomery is supposedly a great athlete.
These two guys could be the difference between us being 10th or 30th against the run by season's end. It looks like they will be in the rotation and get a lot of snaps, starting or not.

If GW plans to unleash the DEs a lot more often, allowing them to rush the passer more, then a bigger onus will fall on the DTs and the LBs to stop the run.

Somebody has to contain the edges on run defense, and I think the OLBs are going to need to be active to contain the edges since the DEs will be rushing upfield, meaning the DTs and Fletcher will need to hold up in the middle or we'll get gashed.

Having Golston and Montgomery at 315 pounds makes me feel a lot better about the scheme.
