He could end up being a good player for us in the future, but right now it is clear that he has a lot of work to do. 724Skinsfan 08-20-2007, 10:12 PM An undrafted rookie not ready for the NFL? I'm stunned by this revelation! backrow 08-20-2007, 10:32 PM Heyer is a good player, but he's not ready to start. I do see the potential in him, playing behind Samuels he'll learn a lot. Welcome DirteePossee! You are right, Heyer is a good player, and I see a lot of potential in him. BTW, post often! FRPLG 08-20-2007, 11:29 PM I like what JLC does so I can't jump on him with this. I do tend to be pretty wary when all the negative stuff comes from other teams scouts who are off the record. There's no accountability and generally not much motivation to be honest. Not that there is a lot of motivation to be dishonest either but based on what this team does I just can't see them putting Heyer in there if it is as great a risk as everyone else thinks. I mean this is the same team that runs a country club training camp to keep everyone healthy. So they're gonna simply throw that extreme over-caution to the wind all of a sudden? Seems odd. sandman89 08-21-2007, 12:11 AM Heyer is a good player, but he's not ready to start. Beemnseven 08-21-2007, 07:37 AM I don't see what the big problem is, JLC is simply calling it like he sees it. I'll agree there was slight improvement from Heyer in the second game over the first, but still -- he's only playing because the coaches obviously believe that they don't have anyone else who can play left tackle. Also, think of the competition Heyer faces in practice compared to what he has to deal with from opposing teams. The Redskins haven't had a decent threat at the defensive end position since the days of Charles Mann and Fred Stokes. The level of speed rushers Heyer lines up against in exhibition play is light years ahead of anything the coaches can throw at him in practice. And let's not forget: The Redskins are in this position because they crap on their draft picks in the first 4 rounds. Over the last 3 or 4 years, think of all the stockpiling they could have done preparing for the future and situations just like this? freddyg12 08-21-2007, 08:14 AM Even if he's overstating it, JLC is right, trusting a qb's blindside to an undrafted free agent rookie is too much of a gamble. At least give him some help w/a rb or te. TheMalcolmConnection 08-21-2007, 08:29 AM While I disagree with most of what JLC says, there's one point I DO agree with. He wasn't lying when he said it was an accident waiting to happen. Sure, sometimes you have to go with what you know, but putting an undrafted rookie starting at tackle, EVENTUALLY someone was going to blow past him because of a rookie mistake. Sure, it could have happened to Samuels too, but the likelihood would have been much less. MTK 08-21-2007, 09:19 AM I agree with his basic premise, but he seems to be almost blaming Heyer for the illegal hit on JC. That could have happened regardless of who was in there blocking. That's all I take issue with here. |
