Can 90 percent of the time be considered random? "Sir, you have been randomly selected..." my ass.

It's not random at all. I had an airport security guard tell me one time that I fit "certain physical characteristics" they are told to look for and that's why I frequently get "randomly searched"

Ironically, this was all before 9/11. And these were all on trips to and/from Puerto Rico. I guess their concern wasn't that I might be a Muslim terrorist, but that I might be a Cuban illegal.

I'm never searched...

I guess being a pasty white man in my 20's helps that out a bit. They usually can't even see me because they're blind by the paleness.

I also have NEVER been randomly searched. I travel all the time too.
Of course this might have something to do with the fact that I ALWAYS wear shorts and a t-shirt with sandals when I travel, even if I am going to a cold climate. I need to be comfortable when I travel or it's torture for me.

I guess we're talking about searches at the airport? I was just a little confused.

I've been randomly searched, I'm a pasty white guy like Rob. It was slightly annoying, but I saw it as part of life these days. I can see why it'd be REALLY annoying if it happened to me all the time.

But if you're not carrying anything on you or doing anything wrong, then is it really anything more than just really annoying and an inconvenience?

I go to Vancouver B.C. now and then and coming back is a bitch (1 hour if I'm lucky and not too many travellers). Every time I take off from Sea-Tac airport I get searched and it takes almost 3 hours to get out of the god damn place when arriving from an international destination. I swear Dulles isn't as bad as Sea-Tac.

Maybe if you did not refuse to give up your water bottle they would not try to search you!
