Or.......possibly the renderings of Cro Magnon, or Piltdown man Monkeydad 10-23-2007, 09:39 AM I wouldn't consider 80's music oldies. I think the term "oldies" describes music from the 50's & 60's specifically. Beyond that, music is pretty much labeled by their decade...70's, 80's, or by their genre. Yeah, "oldies" is the title of the music genre, not any indication of the song's age. My wife's parents (who are oldies junkies) told me that those songs were called oldies when they were new. EARTHQUAKE2689 10-23-2007, 12:19 PM See because you guys are older but 70's and early 80's to me would be oldies. EARTHQUAKE2689 10-23-2007, 12:20 PM When does a song transition from being a classic to being an oldie? That is a good question. BDBohnzie 10-23-2007, 12:59 PM A classic song will always be a classic. Not all oldies are classics, as not all classics are oldies either. There is no transition, especially since one man's trash is another man's classic. BDBohnzie 10-23-2007, 01:06 PM See because you guys are older but 70's and early 80's to me would be oldies. They are not oldies, it's just older music. I mean, think about it. 20 years ago, N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton was making noise. Is that an oldie? In your terms, it would be to a kid currently in high school, since it came out before they were born (Ice Cube - Check Yo Self was on Sirius Faction, hence the NWA reference). Oldies is a genre of music, not anything made before one's birth. EARTHQUAKE2689 10-23-2007, 02:06 PM Depends on how you define it. Monkeydad 10-23-2007, 02:21 PM Depends on how you define it. It's not really up for debate though, "Oldies" is a specific type of music, like Country or Heavy Metal. If you want to "define" Dolly Parton as "death metal", you could, just like you could try to "define" songs as Oldies...but you'd be just as wrong as with the Death Dolly. I think I'll go hop in my Ford Firebird and get some lunch. It's not really a Firebird, I'm just defining it that way. :cheeky-sm | |
