Smooter 11-05-2007, 08:23 PM I agree, anyone playing for NFL minimal wage is not very good, all he is known for is shootin'.
That and running up a huge bill eating slim jims and honey buns. I seriously doubt hes got himself in playing shape.
Stay in jail not healthy for Tank; Johnson spent almost $700 on junk Chicago Sun-Times - Find Articles (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20070530/ai_n19184751)
Stacks42 11-05-2007, 08:39 PM lets just revisit this thread in two weeks, hopefully I will eat my own words.
sandtrapjack 11-06-2007, 08:36 AM well i never read that before. anyone can believe what they want to believe. He might not be great but he cant hurt either. Just another law breaker for the cowgirls
That's like the pot calling the kettle black when you consider the legal troubles of Sean Taylor just year before last. I do beleive there were gun charges there as well.
But no one expects "Pro Bowl" caliber performance from Tank Johnson. The guy has not taken a snap in football game since the Super Bowl last year.
But what he does bring is some much needed depth. Jason Fergeson was lost for the season in the very first game. The Cowboys moved Jay Ratliff from DE into the NT position, then they resigned Remi Ayodele, who had been released at training camp. Ratliff has taken most of the snaps but Remi has played a little as well. Remi is the brother of Cowboys LB Akin Ayodele.
Rookie FB Deon Anderson was placed on IR after a torn rotater cuff injury he got in the Eagles game. This made room for Tank. So now Dallas will have 3 NT's rotating in and out of games, helping keep the middle of that line rested throughout the game.
Ratliff has done very well, and now there is some depth at NT.
jbcjr14 11-06-2007, 09:06 AM I think Tank will help the Cowboys with added depth at their weakest position in their defense. This was a good move for them and hit fits right in with the rest of the thugs.

Big difference, pay attention.
Taylor was not convicted and has stayed away from the people who put him in that situation in the first place. It was his only legal "issue" and he was only convicted by the media, not by the courts. Coach Gibbs now says he's one of the most outstanding , hardworking and committed people on the team.
The Cowboys just signed someone out of jail who's a repeat offender...and have a history of repeatedly signing drug addicts. Now add Tank Johnson to the long list.
Show me any Redskin in the last decade who has been convicted of anything. It doesn't happen and even if it would, we would not have a long list of offenders like Dallas or the Bengals.

Taylor copped a plea! Bigger difference...pay closer attention. And YES he was convicted by the courts.
Just like Vick copped a plea, so I guess HE's not guilty either?
Yes Johnson just got out of trouble. But show me another team in the NFL that has an entire department dedicated to assisting players with off-field issues? Answer NONE, just the Cowboys. When the Bengals organization had all those troubles with the law, Jerry Jones was the only owner in the league who was proactive enough to create a department within the organization dedicated to assisting players with off-field issues no matter how minor.
SmootSmack 11-06-2007, 10:16 AM I still remember how you were so adamant that Tank would "never" be a Cowboy.

So its a good thing when a team needs an entire department to assisting players with off-field issues?

Just because you don't see it in the headlines does not mean players don't have issues, unrelated to football, for every team in the league. Everybody has issues aside from thier job that required attention. Even you and I. It does not have to be a felonious act to justify intervention. It is just an added resource for the players to use in that organization is all.
I still remember how you were so adamant that Tank would "never" be a Cowboy.
And yeah you are right, but I dont think I said "never be a Cowboy", I for one realize Jerry Jones history for signing talented players of a questionable past (see Terry Glenn, Keyshawn Johnson and Terrell Owens). I just was not thrilled with the Tank signing at the time considering his past.
But at the time, Fergusen was gone for the year, and there was no good market for a free agent DT/NT. The Cowboys simply signed the best player available at that position at the time.
Besides, Johnson signed a deal similiar to that of Owens, in that, it is really a series of "one-year" contracts meaning that is he screws up we can release him without cap ramifications. So nothing to lose and everything to gain from the organization standpoint.
SmootSmack 11-06-2007, 12:28 PM Plenty of teams have someone/department to help players with off-field issues. For the Redskins John Jefferson (the former Chargers WR) oversees this deparment, it's called Player Development
