GMScud 12-01-2007, 02:53 PM Nice post.
I think Clinton Portis supported your point with the comments he made on Thursday
"You see how much football is important because you see all the people that respect Sean. You see all the people who Sean has affected.
"It's touching around the world. It's the biggest news. It's on every channel. Everybody is talking about it.
"A lot of days, we come out here and we're like, 'Man, I don't feel like practicing. I don't feel like doing this.' In doing this, you realize that we are cheering up a lot of households.
"There are a lot of people that get appreciation out of life by watching us, so we have to go out there and give everything we have."
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking about when I read Schneed's post. Nice.
And Schneed, very, very well said. One of the best posts I've ever read on this site.
SkinDogg 12-01-2007, 03:10 PM Excellent point. When I was 12, 70Chip Sr. took me to RFK Stadium to see the NFC Championship game against Dallas. The moment when Darryl Grant scored, there was a collective electricity in that place that I have never felt in any time or place since. You could cut it with a knife. Words are never adequate to explain a transendant experience like that, so I'll stop trying now.
Ahhhhh, I remember this game well. Folks, turn up your volume, and you'll see what Chip is talking about.

For the life of me, I don't know why NFL Films won't release post season games on DVD like movie studios release movies. And i'm not talking highlight or best-of game films, i'm talking the unabridged, announced play by play games that would bring back memories of those Sundays when your heart was in your gut.
Last week I think we all took our fan cred for granted (myself included). All we could do is bitch about dropped plays, blown coverage, injuries, Gibbs 2.0, Saunders, etc. A few weeks back, someone even started a thread complaining that a player didn't know the lyrics to Hail to the Redskins (geez). And we'll go back to that soon enough, it's our job as fans. But this week we became more spiritual by stopping to see the bigger picture of what it means to be a Redskin fan, and why it's important. The gift of Sean Taylor.

AlvinWalton'sNeckBrace 12-01-2007, 04:16 PM yeah...I second that amen
BrunellMVP? 12-01-2007, 05:12 PM Completely agree, I've always believed that sports transcend race, sex, religion, etc. The bond between fans is like no other in that way, I've hugged perfect strangers (that in most other circumstances would have been standoffish or macho) when we've scored....
hugeskinsfan182 12-01-2007, 07:33 PM Wow.. yea i definately agree and have most certainly looked in every reachable chair in redskins stadium to give high fives too whenever we go anything good. Great post Schneed... ill probably email that around to family members because we are all proud skins fans. My heart goes out to Sean taylor and i know hes in a better place but i feel the worst for the 18 month old daughter... thats what makes me almost sick.
sevier2 12-01-2007, 10:04 PM very nice
SoCalSkinsFan 12-01-2007, 11:13 PM Great post Schneed. Thanks for putting into words what I've been feeling all week.
And SouperMeister, wow, I can't help but thinking of Len Bias too. Certainly two very different tragedies, but probably my top 2 DC sports heroes have left us before we ever got to see their best.
Unfortunately 6/19/86 and 11/27/07 are two dates in history that I'll ALWAYS remember and remember EXACTLY how I felt when I heard the news.
And thanks to the countless posts on this site all week. I hardly ever post (I'll work on that), but I visit almost every day and read some real, real good stuff. You folks have certainly helped me get through a very difficult week. THANK YOU!
