jsarno 12-10-2007, 11:23 PM i am a bit middled on this one...
as far as the dogs, i don't give hardly a rat's a. the pettiest of crimes against a human isn't worth 1000 damn dogs. not all of the athletes you cheer for everyday are saints. get over yourself?
the real crime here is just pure stupidity.
GUILTY.
serve your time and get back to doing what you do. spare us the jokes please.
Well, it's a shame people like yourself don't value life, and apparently cruelty to animals is Ok in your mind, even though it's a felony what Vick did. Sad.

I agree. In my mind Vick got off easy, like I said before, if he was just some regular dude living in the ghetto he would've gotten a massive punishment. I actually read a story about a guy who got 17 felony counts of dogfighting and for each of the 17 the guy got 6 years per dog. Meaning 102 years in prison this guy had and on top of that he had to pay $34,000 in fines. Vick only paid $5,000.
23 months and $5,000 vs 102 years and $34,000. Tell me who got the slap on the wrist?
djnemo65 12-11-2007, 01:00 AM I don't think the sentence is overly harsh at all and I'm glad Vick's celebrity status wasn't a factor in his sentencing. I am glad to see him locked up.
But it's only human I think to recoil at the site of seeing someone crash and burn so fast. I can't help but pity him, even if I think he deserves everything he's getting.
I think the ultimate tragedy - at least in the original Greek sense of the word - is that Vick will end up back in VA as just another lowlife, his neighborhood having won in the end.
over the mountain 12-11-2007, 12:02 PM as an attorney and former criminal clerk i have seen far worse crimes get lesser punishments. (but that is on the state level, the fed level does not play around and has mandatory minimums and sentencing guidelines).
my pop is a former federal prosecutor who knows this judge and his reputation and said this judge is harsh and hands down stiff penalties. just like in the real world, it all depends on the judge you get and what day you get him or her. ive seen my judge give slaps on the wrist one day and the next day give a guy 2 plus years in jail for basically the same crime and priors,
go skins!
Did you guys hear that the Falcons owner wouldn't rule out Vick coming back to play for ATL?
I think he's just saying the right thing at this point. After 3 years away from the game who knows what kind of QB he'll be. You would have to think it would take him some time to shake off the rust and by then we're talking about a 31 year old QB who's best asset is his legs. Some rumors say he would be better off coming back at an easier position to adjust to such as RB or WR.
My guess is the NFL won't suspend him when he gets out of jail. I think 3 seasons away from the game is appropriate enough of a punishment.

I don't know if he was just saying the right things or not. Common sense says you would think so, but remember Blank wheeling vick around in a wheel chair? I've read that they were pretty close, for an owner and a player anyway.

Yeah they were close but Blank must have felt so betrayed initially. He thought he knew Vick but he obviously didn't. He does seem like a good guy though and perhaps he'll give Vick a 2nd shot.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. After his cool down period, he might've started to feel bad for Vick. I could see it happening.
irish 12-11-2007, 01:17 PM First let me say that I am a Hokie so that might have something to do with my opinion.
I do agree with Shriff. This is too much for the crime he committed. I like animals and do not think that what Vick did was right under any circumstance.
Then tell me, what is it about? It IS animal-related and that is it, plain and simple. Now, you and I and the rest of America are watching this stupid media sources like ESPN and animal lovers make it so much more than it is. People are letteing Holywood dictate how they feel. I am not trying to be political, far from it, but you can't help but notice that people are just plain hypocrites. Soldiers are dying, children in Africa and Asia are dying by hundreds, crime rate is high (at least here in the DC area), but the biggest crime of all which has all the media's attention is killing dogs. Please...
Watch any local news and when they talk about a crime (real people dying) all we do is CLICK (change channel). Why? Because we got used to it. But Vicks case was a new story. Once the media heard about this, they were like a kid in a candy store. All they saw is a rating increase.
Beleive me when I say this, the media can't careless about Vick or the "dogs".
Neither do any of us. I tell you why. There are so many dogs, and animals in general, that are being mis-treated by owners. There so many of them with out homes. It is true we are not killing any of them but none of us are doing anything about it. We only care because the media told you and me to care.
Anywho, that is my two cents.
In most cases the people make the choice whether to participate or not. The dogs were not lucky enough to have that option.

Matty, I heard on some show, that this might have something to do with the signing bonus the Falcons are trying to recoup. Something about they cant cut him because then they can't get the signing bonus. And if they say he's not coming back, could hurt them in arbitration.
