Joe Gibbs Leaving Is Good for The WarpathMTK 01-09-2008, 10:56 AM And on the other extreme, there were those that seemed to bash him endlessly. Should be interesting to see the discussion dynamic under a new coaching regime. SFREDSKIN 01-09-2008, 11:05 AM I believe that if Joe would of comeback next year, he would have taken us to the SB with a healthy team and new players added thru FA and draft. Now the reality, I'm a big Cam Cameron supporter (laugh all you want) but the best thing for the team as far as continuity and chemistry is to promote GW. If Dan Snyder does something else he will lose respect and basically the team. I hope he does the right thing and hires GW as the HC. cpayne5 01-09-2008, 11:06 AM Somehow I doubt that would make everyone happy. Someone would find something to gripe about. I guarantee it. Yeah, like... "They got lucky to win the SB. It was a down year, and barely won by the skin of their teeth. If it wasn't for a lucky stretch run at the end of the season, the team would have been 5-11." SmootSmack 01-09-2008, 11:09 AM Good post SS -- I agree completely that Gibbs loyalists would defend him regardless, and that often set others of us off since it seemed regardless of what the team was doing there was no wrong involved -- the discussion here I think will improve from people being able to speak their mind a bit better without previous biases. That's not exactly what I was trying to say, but ok Anyhow, what will be interesting to see is let's say we win the Super Bowl next year with essentially the same core group, will people say "look at the team that President Gibbs put together for us" or "Look, all it took was for HC Gibbs to step out of the way." Oh man I can see it now. Of course though if we're having that conversation for real, it means we won the SB so I might find it hard to even be upset about it. Schneed10 01-09-2008, 11:15 AM I'm on the same page, SS. This is an unretarded thread. A big faction of Skins fans supported Gibbs on blind faith, and almost shied away from honest analysis because they just couldn't bring themselves to say anything critical about the guy. Maybe that's just a symptom of refusing to think about anything but the positive, and in that case, those people will see no change in behavior. Or maybe now we're opening ourselves up to an opportunity to give a more honest, no-sh*t assessment when we examine the team and its coach. SmootSmack 01-09-2008, 11:31 AM I'm on the same page, SS. There's also a big faction who think it's "uncool" to associate themselves with the past and want to be hip by presenting a "What have you done for me lately" attitude. Look, bottom line is all sides are guilty of letting emotion get in the way of Gibbs. The "Gibbs is my generation" folks and the "Gibbs never did anything for me" people. Either way, we're all right to have passion and emotion still we'll all benefit from a tabula rasa mheisig 01-09-2008, 11:37 AM I believe that if Joe would of comeback next year, he would have taken us to the SB with a healthy team and new players added thru FA and draft. I was laughing pretty damn hard already, but thanks for the permission. |
