Fassel, Ryan and Zorn, oh my!

1-15 here we come. If the giants fired Fassel and the Ravens fired Fassel what good could he possibly do here?? We might as well hire Jimmy Johnson and Andy Ried. Any other rival coaches we can hire?

The difference of course being that they all went to teams with top-notch front offices who've made wise use of the draft and have a history of smart personnel moves.

Fisher deserves a Super Bowl and we would have Schwartz


So long as no draft pick compensation exchanges hands for Rex Ryan then I can live with these moves. I must say, however, that I rather like the suggestion in JLC's latest blog whereby Ryan would stay in B'More, Jim Schwartz would come to DC as DC, and Gregg Williams would go back to Tennessee and work with Jeff Fischer. Probably not going to happen, but it would just put a real 'A-Team' kind of ending on this whole deal (and I really like Jim Schwartz for some reason ... plus he's an Econ major from Georgetown, come on, what's not to love). In a strange way, bringing Schwartz in would also give a measure of continuity since he came up under Gregg in Nashville.

Is anyone thinking this could be a decent move? We went semi low profile, we took our time. What if his coaching style is closer to Gibbs than Williams was? Just because he was on the staff does not mean once he controls the staff that things will be the same. At the very least at least he has been to Super Bowl as a head coach which is more than Washington has has since ummmmm oh yeah version 1.0

I remenber seeing Gibbs interviewed on Comcast, shortly after he announced his retirement. When asked if he would back a decision to hire Gregg Williams as head coach, he never said "yes." He talked his way around it. As much as I love Gibbs, you never know what he's really thinking, because he's so careful about what he says in public. Anyways, Gregg Williams is my first choice. It would be sad to he him go.

If Dan Snyder wasn't lying when he said that he learned "patience" from Joe Gibbs, then we'll see how good a move this is.

Assuming it is Fassel that gets the nod, what happens if he stumbles out of the gate, finishes at 7-9 or so, and Bill Cowher is ready to coach football again in 2009?

He does bring some tangibles, but he also has never had back to back winning seasons. I know GW didn't have one in Buffalo and Bellichek didn't have one in Cleveland, but the difference is that Fassel had talent on those Giants teams

I really do not understand why the people who are upset with this possible hiring are being persecuted.

Seriously why should we have to explain why this is a bad move. Honestly myself and my fellow Anti-Fassel people have sort of fallen off of our rocker in a few posts, but that is nothing but emotion over the thought of losing what Gibbs has rebuilt.

How can we cast aside a guy who kept a top defense together week after week when we were missing a starting CB or LB almost every week of the season, and then to lose Sean at the end of the year.

How can it be Al's fault that the offense isn't working when we lose the right side of the line in the first two weeks, play over half of the year without the top two WR's on the field.

Remember that team that only lost one game by over 7 points all season.

I understand that there are people here who are very much against both Williams and Saunders. It is even possible that Williams would not want Saunders around if he became coach. But why not give them a chance. If Dan is so unsure of what Gibbs did the last four years, how about he puts them on a one year leash and lets see what happens. After that fire sale all he wants if they fail. But I don't think they would have.

Do the people who are collectively fine with this potential hiring think that gutting this staff is just the shot in the arm that this team needed to get over the hump. The same way that that canning Casserly for getting us three first round draft picks did. Or the spending spree of 2000 did. Or how about Spurrier. What about all of those draft picks we traded away. Never mind stability is overrated.

I honestly believe that this team became a very close unit when Sean passed away. This team was very saddened to see Coach Gibbs step down. This is a very strong team, but gutting the coaches who were with them through the hard times makes no sense to me.

Fassel is said to be a players coach. He deserves a second chance in this league but I just don't believe it should be with us. Zorn has been learing from one of the best offensive minds in Seattle. I am sure he has a great deal of unknown potential. I just wish he didn't have to cut his teeth with our team. Rex Ryan has proven to be a great defensive mind, I just wish we could keep our own defensive mind around and not have to give away any draft picks.

I guess it is silly that us fans get attached to the idea of coaches and players being with a team for a long time. I guess were the kind of fans that should be rooting for teams like Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Denver, or Seattle. These teams have been very stable over the long haul as of recently.

Maybe this will work like it has for the Cowboys, Chargers, and Steelers. I sure as hell want this team to do well, and will still root for them. I guess I wont know how I really feel until the kool-aid is passed out.

That's one of the biggest concern really, that he's just here until Cowher comes along
