Gadzooks, you mean someone is talking sense around here?

I agree that Fassel and Mooch are interchangeable. The important factors here are the OC and the DC. So, Zorn will implement a new offensive scheme, while Blache will keep the status quo on the defensive side. So whomever the HC is, it'll be up to him to compliment both of these guys while running the roost.

Mooch makes more sense than Fassel because of his exposure to the WCO. And the argument about him sucking in Detroit...I'm not convinced that any Lions head coach is going to have any kind of success with Matt Millen as Team President.

Zorn does not need help. If you looked at Seattle's offense they're dynamic and he's a proven Qb teacher. Don't get too caught up on "West Coast". Zorn runs a form of that not the dink and dunk crap version. He's a far more aggressive verticle down the filed attacker. With Blanche we have two very aggressive coaches in place. Both are very good coaches. Now you bring in pretty boy NFL Network Steve Mariucci? I'm not buying it. Think we're going to announce Meeks before him. A hungry Dungy prototype who's defensive minded so its totally Zorn's show. Think we go places quickly with that team of coaches and our players in place.

He doesn't need help? He's going to be a first time coordinator... it might not be a bad thing to have a HC in place that's familiar with the offense he's going to be installing.

I think Fassel and Mariucci are pretty interchangeable actually. Both are very solid coaches who know how to lead a locker room and at the same time delegate. Neither one is going to reinvent the wheel, but they don't need to.

Good point.

When you break down what Gibbs' role was here, he was basically the CEO of the coaching staff. Sure he had his input but both sides of the ball basically took care of themselves. We don't need a hands on dictator at HC, we just need someone to oversee the operation and be the face of the staff. I agree that Fassel and Mooch are fairly interchangeable, that said I would still prefer Mariucci.

I'm reserving my ultimate judgement until the coaching staff is in place. I will say that if we pull off this Maricucci deal I'll be very pleased.

WHAT??? This is the 1st time I've heard of Maricucci.

It looks like Snyder is looking for a HC that is not an an ass kicker. And that is why Mooch lost his job in Det. Guys we were not being held accountable.

Detroit is also rare because everyone in the world knows why that franchise isn't winning. Usually there's questions among the fan base, or a scapegoat or something, but Millen is every bit as bad as people bill him to be.

Detroit was losing before and after Mooch. The obvious comon denominator is.....he who cannot be named

Detroit needed an ass kicker and Mooch wasn't a good fit.

I think if you need a franchise to be turned around from a culture of losing, Mooch probably isn't your guy.

But if you have some pieces in place and need someone to oversee the operation and be a players type of coach, he's probably a better fit in that kind of situation.

As I stated in another thread, I'm fine with either Mooch or Fassel. At the end of the day, we will have an experienced staff on both sides of the ball, a head coach who has taken teams to the playoffs, that has been integral in developing quarterbacks, that's a players coach that veterans will respect and younger players will relate to..

As for all of the 'drama' that the coaching search has created, it's not that big of a deal. I keep pointing to Dallas and SD last year. Dallas was Norv Turner's job, Jerry Jones was hanging out with him all over the place at the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl and then BAM, Wade Phillips is hired (after Garret was hired as OC) and 13 wins later they won the division.. It was February 12th last year when the Chargers fired Schottenhiemer and hired Norv, who we all know isn't much of a coach, and assembled a complete coaching staff, 11 wins and 2 playoff wins later, they are in the AFC Championship game..

Bottom line, whoever the coach is, once training camp rolls around the players will practice hard, play hard and if they have the better gameplan, better execution and better talent than the team lined up across from them, they will emerge victorious. All the other BS is just filling time.

He was doing all the things a coordinator does without the title because Holmgren is the all powerful.

We're not going to be running the West Coast Offense so enough of that talk please. Lets let the coach come out and say what he's going to run first.

Mariucci is all talk no action accept the gold course. Only difference between him and Spurrier is Mooch Italian. :)
