I have to say, I was really impressed with Taylor. He looks very big on the field too. He practically knew what play was coming on that QB rollout. It was “gimme that shit” type of pick.
p.s. Dude can dance too. Hope to see more of his dancing in the end zone.

Coach Gibbs & his staff are all about the old school method. Taylor is going to have to prove himself before he's given the recognition.
Remember back when rookies earned playing time & most never started until yr 2 & 3. These days they start right off the bat & expect so much when they are not even given half back.
Remember when guys would play 7 - 8+ years in the league, but only start 3 or 4 of them. Some guys hung around in the NFL for 10+ yrs. Now owners want youth & that's it. They load up a contract for $40+ mil & back end the shit out of it for 7+ years knowing they will unload the player in 2 - 3 years. So guys want to make sure they front end the shit out of their contracts so they don't get screwed.
All in all the NFL has changed since coach Gibbs was here. For the worst unfortunately :smashfrea

lott has played well in the preseason, bowen has gotten a pick or two in camp as well... taylor hasn't been so great until last week, but i'm sure he'll get where he wants to be.
I taped the Broncos game, and watched the first quater and half over again, just to watch the starters. Man, Matt Bowen had a bad game, he did not look very good. He was very tentative and was always a step behind the play. In the first semi-long run Quentin Griffin broke off the right side of his line, LB Washington blitzed an inside gap and it was clear Bowen was responsible for outside containment (to cover LB Washington's end of the line). He failed miserably and RB Griffen got a good gain. There were several other plays Bowen was very slow to react. If Bowen continues his inconsistent play, it might be him instead of Lott that loses his job.

It's called Free Agency, chounsman. It means you don't have to develop your players. You let other teams develop young stars for you, and you buy them (a la Redskins.)
The most talented player should play. The best way to learn is by doing. Rookies will make stupid mistakes, but so will a 10 year vet who's never started. You need to be on the field in game-time situations to learn.

Defensewins, I totally agree, bowen is a monster in practice, but he forgets to bring his game to the show... I'd have no problem with taylor/lott if that's how it breaks down.

that would be weird if Lott and taylor started at safety for us this year, who would have even considered that possability at the end of last year. Yea Taylor, mabye, but lott?!? If hes the best player though then he should be on the field. Bowen should play special teams the way he hits.
OH OH OH, Joe, I hope that you can anwser this. Has sean taylor been practicing on special teams for punts and field goals. Hes not just a ball hawk when its thrown, hes great at blocking kicks to. i hope the Gibbs is utilizing him there.

I have NEVER seen Bowen hit the other team hard. He'll level a Redskin but can't translate that into game-time destruction.

Very true, that has always bothered me about him. I have been more underwhelmed by Bowen than by any other player on the defense so far this year. Sure, we have plenty more preseason to look forward to, but this guy needs to really step it up if he thinks he's going to keep his starting spot. Those runs in the Denver game were his responsibility, and with Gregg Williams' blitz-happy defense, we absolutely need disciplined safeties who can contain a running back when a team uses draw plays like that against our 2 LB blitz packages.

I've been thinking about this too, given how all the reports say that Lott and (now) Taylor are impressive, and Bowen ond Ohalete are not. But could someone who knows more about this tell us if this is even possible? Would one of them be able to play SS?
