Hail2theskins 02-14-2008, 05:49 PM I just bought a new laptop with the amd turion 64 x2 2.0 ghz processor and its great for me. Very smooth operating multiple memory heavy programs at once, such as photoshop, autocad and sketchup. skinsguy 02-14-2008, 05:52 PM I haven't built a computer in awhile, so I'm not up on the latest and greatest top of the line AMD processors. What I can tell you is that I've had the experience of AMD processors being faster than an intel chip of the same processing speed. Of course now, we're counting processing power in number of cores now instead of just speed, but MOST of the time you can't go wrong with AMD. I'll have to read up on that article about the defective core. msm1971 02-14-2008, 06:19 PM Fair enough, I lean towards Intel cause the newer technology is good, but I lean towards them for good reasons. Go back a couple of years and AMD had the better technology without a doubt, but I think that has changed recently. I was just interested in what others had to say. Thanks for the feedback. Redskins8588 02-18-2008, 01:46 PM I have a question, If I were to completely erase my hard drive, with a de-magatizer, and put that same hard drive back in to my tower would I totaly loose my operating system? So, basicly, is my operating system on my hard drive or on my mother board? BleedBurgundy 02-18-2008, 03:20 PM I have a question, If I were to completely erase my hard drive, with a de-magatizer, and put that same hard drive back in to my tower would I totaly loose my operating system? So than if I erased my hard drive and re-installed it into my tower my PC would not be able to start? onlydarksets 02-18-2008, 04:48 PM The physical computer would start just fine, but it wouldn't boot into an operating system. skinsguy 02-18-2008, 09:29 PM So than if I erased my hard drive and re-installed it into my tower my PC would not be able to start? It would boot to the screen where it finds your keyboard (the black DOS screen) and then would say something like this "Operating System missing." Why would you erase your hard drive with a demagnetizer? Just blow away the partition and reinstall your OS. Unless you're going to have government officials analyzing your computer's hard drive, the chances of someone else retrieving your old files would be slim to none. BleedBurgundy 02-18-2008, 11:00 PM For what it's worth, I called AMD and they didn't even question me. They just said "send it to us." So I did... Supposedly they are still trying to determine whether it is a problem with the processor or simply an incompatibility with Vista 64 bit OS, but everyone that has RMA'd theirs and replaced it has not seen the problem... We shall see. | |
