Cowboys sign LB ThomasThat Guy 02-24-2008, 01:10 AM the thomas deal is 3mill max, 1 year 1mill SB, 1mill salary, 1mill incentives based on playing time. goingdeep 02-24-2008, 09:13 AM good for the cowgirl he is to old and to slow! dmek25 02-24-2008, 09:31 AM Zach Thomas was a fine middle linebacker. way past his prime. and doesn't Dallas play a 3-4? it seems rather odd that Thomas is on the older side, but the cowboys are one of the youngest teams in the league. strange move EARTHQUAKE2689 02-24-2008, 09:51 AM Zach if healthy can be a good fit for the Cowboys (i.e. what Seau does for the Pats) and the reason he was able to sign is because he was cut after the season ended but before free agency started skinsfan69 02-24-2008, 10:16 AM Yeah they suck! Hey wait a minute! sandtrapjack i don't understand this signing. thomas is not an inside 3-4 backer. where is he going to play? sandtrapjack 02-24-2008, 11:24 AM sandtrapjack i don't understand this signing. thomas is not an inside 3-4 backer. where is he going to play? Actually, Miami does play quite a bit of the 3-4. Dom Capers was their D-Coord until recently. But they mix it up between the 3-4 and the 4-3 depending on the offense. But as I understand it, they want to use Zach Thomas on the weakside ILB position, on the same side as DeMarcus Ware. The coaches seem to think that using Thomas this way is very similar to the way that Wade Phillips and Brian Stewart used Donnie Edwards on the same side as Shawn Merriman in San Diego 2 years ago when that defense racked up 60 or so sacks in the season. But Thomas will have to beat out Akin Ayodele for the starting position. If not, that is really not bad depth at all on that side. When you do it that way it is a smarter move than people think jsarno 02-24-2008, 03:12 PM Actually, Miami does play quite a bit of the 3-4. Dom Capers was their D-Coord until recently. Sporting news reported that he will split time with Ayodele to keep both fresh. Not a bad idea depending on the financials. Speaking of which, does anyone know the actual financials on this deal? skinsfanzg18 02-24-2008, 03:59 PM sweet. im glad we get to see his injured, raggedy, beat up, old ass two times next year. :) agree? MTK 02-24-2008, 06:41 PM He's still a good player if he can stay healthy. |
