While this kind of atrocity cannot, and should not go unreported, would it not be refreshing to have our media work as hard to report something positive in the news?
Maybe put a little "humanity" back in "human" to help offset this............deeply disurbing report

That's pretty much the worst thing I've ever read. At least the lunatic is dead. That poor child though... Ugh

Those are great stories. Good find. It just seems like you hear less and less of this stuff and more negativity and horror stories from the media these days. I understand drama sells and money is what it's all about, but you just don't hear too many uplifting stories.

The town of Turlock and much of the rest of the nation was shocked when a 27-year-old man beat and stomped his 2-year-old son to death on a rural road. But what was nearly as stunning for many people was that none of the motorists and their passengers who stopped and saw the attack tried to tackle the man.

Good article, Matty. I'd love to think I would take action, but there is no way to tell until you are in that situation. Hopefully none of us ever have to find out.

I wonder why the witnesses didn't do more? That may not be a fair question, but if there is a grown man attacking a child, isn't it your moral obligation to put yourself between them?

This story makes me want to cry a little, probably because I've got a 20 month old so it hits home when you hear the word "toddler."

But I'm with you. Unless the guy has a weapon, I swear to God I'd go down myself before I'd stand by and let this dude do that. I think I've said it before around here, I have a visceral rage type reaction when I see people getting hurt who don't deserve it. Unless I saw a weapon on him. But if I didn't, I'm taking my chances. If the guy beats my ass until the cops arrive at least it's not a poor little kid. Pain is temporary, death is not.

Maybe the witnesses were elderly or female? (I didn't read the article)

I can only imagine the pure shock of seeing something like this going down right in front of you. I'd like to think I would do something... but I can certainly understand people being frozen from the absolute shock of it.
