That Guy 06-19-2008, 01:32 AM I think the reason I'm still using IE 7 is because I'm pretty content with it. I like the security features, and that whole feature about the address bar knowing where you want to go in Firefox isn't really that big for me because like 95% of the web pages I go to are bookmarked and organized on the left hand side of my screen, so I never have to type in a url unless i'm going to a site that I don't already have bookmarked.
you can import bookmarks from ie into firefox. when you install it, it'll ask you if you want to.
firefox is faster, more secure and has better plugins (like adblock... i haven't seen a web ad in years, gmail manager, greasemonkey/platypus (custom scripts per site... like adding a "download as .mp4" link to every youtube video/page), session saver, etc). if you're happy with ie that's cool, and ie7 copied a lot of things from firefox (like tabbed browsing and such) which made it better, but most people who make the switch are pretty happy about it.

I might download it and try it out for a bit and see if I like it, we'll see. The only complaint I have about IE7 is that on some sites that always have popups, well IE7 will block like the first but then the second and the third ones come up on my screen. I like the custom scripts per site idea on Firefox as well, that's another reason I'll check it out.

custom scripts for a page (like moving frames or pieces around, etc) is done with the greasemonkey and platypus scripts... their websites should have a repository of scripts for specific sites in case you don't want to or don't know how to write your own (though there's help for that too, if you want it).
to stop pop ups/ads, adblock plus and adblock filterset.g updater... that'll automatically update and keep most things blocked, and you can use it to right click and adblock individual images/elements, or throw wildcards (like http://ad.* and http://ads.*) as needed
you should probably get IEView too, it just lets you right click and choose "View this page/link in Internet Explorer" in case you need it (sometimes adblock will block videos that try to load video ads before playing the real content, and if you don't want to go through and unblock them, it's quicker to just pop it into IE... it might just be overzealousness on my part that blocked them though)
I'd also suggest GooglePreview (shows a thumbnail of linked pages next to google results) and Gmail Manager (IF you use a gmail account... there's another plugin that'll let you use Gmail as an ftp/storage server too, but not that many people need to do that).
mredskins 06-19-2008, 09:54 AM how do yo uchange the themes in firefox? I have download the plug in but I can't get the theme to change.

BDBohnzie 06-19-2008, 10:54 AM I downloaded the new version yesterday afternoon, and I'm not a big fan of the new address bar. So much so, that I got the oldbar plugin. That's my only complaint. All my plugins except 2 had updates for Version 3, so I'm a pretty happy camper.
Adblock Plus is awesome. It pains me to look at stuff in IE laden with ads...

Thank you!
That Guy 06-20-2008, 03:23 AM i'm still using 2.x myself. i'll update eventually, but i really don't have any complaints right now.
I'm really loving FF3. By far the best browser I've used to date.

Funny - I love the new address bar. Does oldbar change the functionality (i.e., history+bookmark searching) or just the appearance?
