Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............Giantone 08-07-2008, 03:27 AM Chuck Benardik,LT,Sam Huff............in their day were all the best at one time. hesscl34 08-07-2008, 10:00 AM What records did he break? Most interceptions in one game. Sheriff Gonna Getcha 08-07-2008, 10:28 AM Look first off,no one can find anything I've said that's negative about ST!He was good, very good but to anoint him as a saint and all super HOF I think is wrong.Second and I mean this, all I'm talking about is football...nothing else.We will never know simple as that,we can wish ,hope or dream but he could have blown out a knee and never played again...................nobody knows that's all I'm saying . Giantone might not hold ST's skills in the high regard that many of us do, but he hasn't taken any cheap shots at Taylor. Giantone is just disagreeing with us, which is fine. That said, I have never seen a guy hit like Taylor. I've seen Lynch, Lott, and others hit, but none of them hit quite like Taylor. Taylor would miss a lot of tackles because he was running at full speed, but that's also why he tended to blow people up when he made contact. You'd see a RB running 3-4 yards, a flash come in from the backfield and, all of the sudden, the forward progress would come to halt immediately. I think Brandon Jacobs said that he had never seen someone play as though they had multiple bodies (i.e., hitting without regard to one's own body). Sheriff Gonna Getcha 08-07-2008, 10:34 AM I love T.O. because of his talent and because he plays for the Cowboys, but I have never in his whole career, seen him play as cautious as he did when he played against the Skins. As you might expect, I agree. T.O. never played all that well against the Redskins when Taylor was in the game, and lit us up when Taylor was absent. I remember one play where T.O. went up for a jump ball, had it in his hands, looked and saw Taylor coming, and curled up into the fetal position to brace for contact. I bet you Plaxico would consider him one of the most feared tacklers in NFL history. Plaxico said Taylor was the biggest, most feared hitter in the league. I think an SI players poll revealed the same thing. firstdown 08-07-2008, 10:56 AM Its very simple. There have been some very hard hitters who played with no reguard for themself and ST was one of those players. What would have he become its hard to say because there are so many factors that play apart in football. Giantone 08-07-2008, 05:55 PM Its very simple. I agree, there have been some great hitters during the 75 some odd years of the NFL,Riggins said the hardest he ever got hit was by Harry Carson.Players have said the hardest hitter during one point was Earl Campbell. I understand Earl Campbell did "hit" guys during his career, but isn't this based on defensive "hitters"? I mean we could add (at least in the modern era) Christian Okoye, Mike Alstott, Mike Sellers, Lorenzo Neal, Brandon Jacobs, etc to the list of running backs you just don't want to see coming your way. I'm sure I've left off many great RB/FBs, but the original list obviously had some ommissions, thus the conversation. I've never been hit by any of these guys and I'm sure there are 15-20 players being left off this list. As I recall, Steve Atwater played with another big hitter in Dennis Smith. He was definitely no slouch. Bottom line is there is just no way for two guys to come up with the same list of players when comparing different era's (and positions) for ANY category in ANY sport. Taylor simply didnt play long enough. everyone on that list had nice, long careers Mike Vick was no way near over rated..He changed the quarterback game like Taylor did for linebacking. If Vick had any receiver help he would've been a force to reckon with. As far as the list its seems pretty accurate to me. |
