Brett the Jet is a bad deal.
His pride got trashed in GB (and rightfully so). he's got an attitude about that, and I think when the dust settles, he will decide he no longer wishes to play ball.........and give that type of performance
jsarno 08-08-2008, 12:56 PM I believe the Jets get a pick back if Favre only plays one year.
I didn't see that.
Do you know what they would get?
I know if they trade him to the vikings, they lose 3 first round picks, but I did not see them getting a pick back if he retires after 1 season.
jdlea 08-08-2008, 12:56 PM As a personal aside, I'm not convinced the team is remarkably better with Favre than with Pennington. It was only two years ago that Favre single-handedly played the worst football of his career with a young, talented team, and kept them out of the playoffs. There's a stronger chance we see that Favre this year than the one that set career highs last season.
The Jets are a playoff contender, but they are still a longshot. Don't we all agree that the Texans and Broncos are still better top-to-bottom team?
While I think you make a good point about Favre 2 years ago, Pennington's season last year was pretty weak. I know the numbers don't look that bad, but he made some throws last year (namely an out route against the Bills that was a pick 6) that have convinced me he doesn't have the arm strength to play somewhere like NY. (Bad weather and wind) I think he needs to go to Miami if he hopes to resurrect his career.
To close, I have to disagree with your last sentence. I don't have all the faith in the world in Denver, I'm not sold on Cutler and not having Marshall for the first 3 will hurt. As for Houston, I'm also not really that into Matt Schaub, he needs to show a lot this season and I don't like the way they run the football either. That said, they may both have better defenses than the Jets

I think you're right, Hog1. He's saying he's happy to be a Jet, but he came back with the sole intention of playing for the Green Bay Packers. Only after both sides got steeped into this ugly mess that, I believe, Brett had to save face and say I just want to play football. I think if his heart is half-way in it, it will surely manifest in the way he plays. Think about it, he came back because he loved playing football. Now he's learning a new system, there's no fun in that. I wouldn't be suprised if Brett still walked away from the Jets to make this the ultimate reality show.
That Guy 08-08-2008, 01:43 PM terrible deal. it's a circus act... new offense for a 39 year old with new (Crappier) players than the team he just left...
i don't get it.

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. He walks away. Even though I think he instigated this whole deal jerkin' the Pack around at the end of the season for the last few years, I do not want a great career to end like this.
AND, if your the Jets, and he does not work out, how the HELL do you sell PSL's at 5k + ???
Are you guys saying he's going to walk away before the season starts??

After NE, IND, JAX, SD, and the eventual AFC North winner, there is a pretty big drop off in talented teams. So I don't blame the Jets for trying to seize the opportunity this offseason.
To me, this isn't a particularly horrible trade, but they aren't getting the Favre they think they are.
It would not shock me if the Jets made the playoffs, but they (and Oakland) are trying the same methodology to get there, and obviously one or both are going to fail.
My last point: I understand your lack of faith in Schaub and Cutler, as more than a few careers have started promising like both of theirs, before crashing and burning. But, just looking at those three QBs: Cutler, Schaub, and Favre, I think that I would be less confident in Favre's ability to learn a new system in a month and still be a shell of his former self then I would be in the continued development of two young, promising QBs.

That is a good point and I'll concede I have whatever team Favre plays for colored glasses on when I evaluate Brett. I have faith that he can lead them to the 6th seed, but you never know.
As for Cutler and Schaub, I think Cutler will continue to develop, but I don't trust his receivers. I read a Scouts Inc profile on Marshall saying that good corners usually shut him down and he abuses bad ones, I haven't looked at their schedule, but that concerns me and so does his suspension. The Schaub situation is different, I've never been a huge fan of the guy and I think the Texans gave up too much as far as trade and pay to get him. I also wasn't encouraged by his injury last year. I'm not saying niether will be good, but they still feel like they're another year away to me, I could be wrong though, they could both step it up this season.
HateNMyEyez 08-10-2008, 11:01 AM eh the man should have made his mind up a while back about returning instead of goin through all the bs
